SDL is seeking experienced and organized electro-optical instrument systems engineers for exciting and relevant NASA science projects. The EO instrument systems engineers are responsible for the architecture, technical trades, risk tracking, requirements tracking, and the technical progress and execution of the EO instrument program.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in a related technical field (e.g., systems engineering, optical science, aerospace engineering, or electrical engineering)
  • Formal systems engineering training/classes, or advanced degree(s) in a related field, or 2+ years of relevant EO instrument systems engineering
  • Familiarity with EO instruments and subsystems design
  • Familiarity with detectors
  • Ability to provide technical support to related proposal efforts.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to understand the science-driven requirements and work with the team to translate into a technical solution
  • Proficiency understanding requirements, flowing down requirements, tracking requirements and verification of requirements
  • Ability to work with program management to ensure technical requirements and performance are achieved
  • Ability to present clearly and succinctly to customers, and to support interactions with customers
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be able to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in a related technical field (e.g., systems engineering, optical science, aerospace engineering, or electrical engineering)
  • 7+ years of relevant EO instrument systems engineering
  • In-depth familiarity with EO instruments, systems requirements, and subsystems
  • Experience with proposal development for NASA opportunities
  • Experience with space instrument/sensor development and testing
  • Understanding of space environment
  • Understanding of risks and risk mitigations for spaceflight instruments
