Purpose
The purpose of this classification, under direct supervision, is performing installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, including replacing and repairing valves, installing timers and clocks, locating existing irrigation zones and lines, repairing pumps, trouble-shooting wire control systems. Upon installation of new systems as well as in the course of repairs on existing systems, irrigation technicians are responsible for conducting testing. Responsible for operating trucks and other equipment and assists in the construction and maintenance of city facilities and equipment. Performs related work as required. Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience - High school diploma or GED; supplemented by a minimum of 5 months experience with irrigation systems. Requires possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver"s License.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Performing maintenance on existing irrigation systems to include replacing or replacing valves, installing timers and clocks, checking zones and lines.

Excavating and filling trenches for irrigation systems.

Maintenance or repairs of pumps and troubleshooting wire control systems. Installs new sprinkler systems in connection with landscaping and beautification.
Reading and interpreting blue prints and diagrams to locate equipment or systems.
Assists in the construction and maintenance of parks, playgrounds and playground equipment.
Cleans shops and buildings; performs minor maintenance work to property.
May use self-contained breathing apparatus while performing some tasks.

Operates hand tools such as shovels, spades, rakes, and cutters, as well as larger tools and power tools.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Operates trucks, jackhammers, air compressors, pumps, concrete saws, tamping machines, golf course machines, and related equipment.

Loads and unloads equipment and job related items.

Picks up supplies and other related items need for daily activities.

Assists in the preparation of special events, displays and decorations related to beautification. Drives trucks with trailers; fuels trucks and equipment.
Performs other related duties as required.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds) and/or heavy physical work and lifting from 20-50 pounds.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depths. Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Knowledge of Job: Has working knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of the City of Daytona as such pertain to the performance of the essential duties of Maintenance Worker II. Has working knowledge of principles and practices of semi-skilled work in construction and maintenance activities. Has considerable knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Has working knowledge of the organization of the department, and of related departments and agencies. Clearly understands the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work. Has working knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertain to work responsibilities. Knows how to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with which position interacts.

Quality of Work: Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities.
