Job Description

Overview

As a National Laboratory, we offer a unique blend of opportunities for the exceptional candidate. Your work as a Cable Plant Engineer will include: Providing communications wiring and room design input to PNNL Facilities and Operations for new construction and building remodels using following BISCSI standards and best practices for information technology and telecommunications as well as PNNL standards. You will also conduct site and building walkdowns to determine conduit pathways and cabling infrastructure to attach new construction and remodels to the existing PNNL network, as well as documenting and certifying this infrastructure. You will collaborate with Network Engineers to ensure designs also follow network design standards and will coordinate installation requirements and schedules.


Responsibilities
  • Provides design information and port counts to PNNL Network team for switch and wireless configurations.
  • Orders material for projects, track expenses with PNNL Facilities and Operations Project Management and Accounting.
  • Approves receipt of materials.
  • Monitors construction installation to ensure compliance with specification requirements.
  • Reviews all test reports and as-builts of new construction and remodels.
  • Develops port to location spreadsheet for PNNL IT Technicians.
  • Coordinates network installation with construction schedule.
  • Assigns PNNL intrabuilding fiber links and track tagging and routing information on spreadsheet.
  • Provides forecast information to PNNL Facilities and Operations for replacement of aging fiber and areas needing additional services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-
  • MS/MA -OR-
  • PhD
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Data and voice network wiring knowledge
  • RCDD Certification
  • Five years of ICT design experience or an equivalent combination of experience, approved education, and industry certifications.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • IDF and MDF design experience
  • A focus on customer satisfaction and high-quality service delivery.
