Employees in this class work under the general supervision of the Muskegon County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) Superintendent and are responsible for the supervision of JDC employees. Juvenile Detention Center Shift Supervisors assign daily duties, review work performed, clarify court orders to staff and coordinate work activities of their assigned shift. Employees in the class are responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance, and security of their assigned shift, serve as a resource person for Youth Juvenile Detention Officers and JDC Shift Leads. Employees in this class perform other related duties, as required.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1. Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from an accredited college or university; AND Have a minimum of two (2) years of paid work experience in a Child Caring Institution or Court Operated Facility;
2. Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The Juvenile Detention Center Shift Supervisor working under the general direction of the JDC Superintendent performs duties in compliance with the established policies of the County, Courts, and Juvenile Detention Center.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
An employee in this class supervises the daily work activities of Juvenile Detention Center staff.

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
