PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for working with students who have disabilities to enable them to acquire marketable job skills in the work force by accompanying students to business/employment sites, overseeing work training, and providing assistance in acquiring job skills.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education Level: An Associate's Degree -OR- 60 semester / 90 quarter hours of college credit from an accredited organization -OR- passing score on the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) Paraprofessional Assessment Test

Experience, Skill, and Certification:


  • Experience working with children with disabilities;
  • Ability to work with small groups to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher
  • Knowledge of setting up and/or operating instructional equipment resources and materials
  • Ability to guide students with independent study and enrichment work that has been set up by the teacher
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Works with students with disabilities to enable them to learn about the world of work.
  • Assists students with disabilities in identifying and selecting appropriate vocation.
  • Provides direct supervision to students with disabilities as specified on their individual education plans.
  • Accompanies students to appointments, job sites or other off-campus activities to assess social and employability developmental needs.
  • Confers with teachers, administrators, and other members of the educational team to identify behaviors requiring modification.
  • Functions as an advocate between site personnel and students to maintain open communication and achieve individual education plan and employment objectives.
  • Plans, develops and implements strategies for developing students' independent work skills.
  • Accompanies students to job sites, observes performance, oversees work training, and provides instruction and assistance accordingly.
  • Assists with collection and maintenance or records and data relevant to targeted program students.
  • Monitors the activities and behavior of students during program activities to ensure physical and environmental safety, or for the purpose of reporting on critical/behavioral incidents.
  • Provides explanations, examples, and instruction to students consistent with program objectives and standards.
  • Establishes communication with parents, teachers and students.
  • Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 200 days. (G6)

There will be prolonged periods of standing or walking, and there may be frequent bending, stooping, or stretching. There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies. Reading, listening, writing, and speaking are requirements. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands, but there may be occasions that require the lifting or restraint of a student.
