POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the principal, the JROTC Instructor (Officer) is responsible for: The delivery, design and implementation of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) curriculum.

This is a PGCEA, 10-Month, Position
Hourly Range: $49,963 - $111,816

Detailed Description


DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Develops short and long range plans for achieving JROTC curriculum goals, gathers appropriate materials, establishes clear objectives for lessons, and formulates appropriate lesson plans during the school year;
  • Prepares and delivers lesson plans and courses in the history, purpose and structure of the military services; ethical values and principles of good citizenship; leadership; physical fitness; and military drills and formations and administers, and grades assessments and provides feedback;
  • Mantains and completes reports through automated systems as directed by respective service branch;
  • Maintains accurate and complete JROTC student records as required by the certifying service branch command headquarters and Prince George;'s County Public Schools policies and administrative procedures;
  • Maintains a working knowledge of new instructional methods, technology, and equipment; Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and the personal growth of students;
  • Organizes, supervises and participates in extracurricular activities for ROTC cadets to include color guard, drill teams and other special activities;
  • Collaborate with school leadership to increase ;
  • Developing favorable public relations and maintain enrollment in the program.
  • Improving instruction.
  • Implementing the full spectrum of a JROTC program.
  • Coordinating and integrating JROTC with other school departments and community agencies.
  • Complies with school district safety guidelines when instructing, supervising, monitoring, and accompanying cadets;
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities;
  • Attends staff development programs, department meetings and other professional activities;
  • Sets an example and models positive attitudes, knowledge, and skills for cadets; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Knowledge of military subjects as taught through JROTC programs;
  • Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate students to excel ;
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education;
  • Ability to work with diverse populations;
  • Ability to explain military and civics subjects;
  • Ability to infuse technology into curriculum;
  • Ability to appropriately maintain confidential information; and
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree preferred

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must complete assessment and approval for JROTC instructional assignment by their respective service branch. Must complete instructional certification conducted by their respective service branch within one year of hire.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees and directs the work of student teachers, paraprofessional educators and volunteers assigned to the classroom.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal/typewriter; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone,; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
By military regulations, staff is retired noncommissioned officers. Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as necessary. (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.)
