LEARN’s KidsPlay program provides an organized gender specific athletic league for boys and girls in grades 3rd – 8th. The emphasis of KidsPlay is to provide an opportunity to play, learn and develop confidence in learning new and healthy lifestyle skills. The KidsPlay program requires a knowledgeable set of referees for a successful program. A KidsPlay referee one will be working in a fast-paced environment, and should be energetic and have the physical ability to be on their feet for long periods of time, as they will be standing, walking and even running during sporting events. As a KidsPlay Coach, teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques. Monitoring and enhancing performance by providing tuition, encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of programming guidelines, curriculum and staff training for KidsPlay (both competitive and non-competitive activities);
  • Facilitate communication between LEARN staff, students, parents, coaches, school administrators and the After School Programs Supervisors regarding KidsPlay events;
  • Collaborate with Coordinators and Supervisors regarding the recruitment of schools and players, and the development of the KidsPlay schedule to ensure goals are met and do not conflict with regular programming;
  • Assist Supervisors in coordinating game officiating, transportation, and acquisition of game day facilities.
  • Monitor the collection of registration forms, fees, and other KidsPlay materials;
  • Monitor the distribution and collection of KidsPlay uniforms and supplies/equipment at the beginning and end of every season.
  • Assist with and/or attend on-site Spirit Week activities, end-of-season banquets, and/or awards ceremonies;
  • Work with LEARN staff to distribute and collect evaluation instruments;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Education & Experience:
    1. Graduation from High School; and, a passing score on the district examination for Instructional Assistants;
    Or
    2. Graduation from High School; and, two years of college coursework.

    Notes:
    1. Two years of college coursework is equivalent to 60 units.
    2. Experience working with youth in an educational setting is strongly desired.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Interest in working with, mentoring, and tutoring at-risk youth;
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, peers, school staff and others;
    • Ability to effectively tutor students in assigned subject(s);
    • Ability to work as part of a team and act as a positive role model for students;
    • Ability to write basic reports summarizing events.

  • Language & Computer Skills:
    • The ability to speak Spanish is desired at many of our school sites;
    • Competence with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Physical Skills:
    • Must be able to lift and carry small loads (up to 25 lbs.) and stand for prolonged hours.

  • Additional Requirements:
    • Must complete Live Scan and obtain Department of Justice and FBI Criminal Background Clearances, as well as Health Clearance (TB Test).
    • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends;
    • Must be willing and able to travel anywhere in the region LEARN serves for a job assignment, off-site meetings, trainings, and events.
    • Must be eligible to accept all KidsPlay Coach job assignments.
