Job Title: Kodosky Day Camp Health and Safety Specialist

FLSA Status: Seasonal Staff Summer Camp Staff

Reports to: Director of Camp Service/Kodosky Day Camp Manager

Location: Kodosky Service Center, Austin, Texas

Number of positions: 1

Weekly Rate: Starting at $500-D.O.E.


Position Summary:


The Health and Safety specialist is responsible for the total program of health education and safety practices of the entire camp. The Health and Safety Specialist promotes unity, positivity, and customer-friendly service throughout all facets of the camp.


Position Responsibilities

  • Promote and support Girl Scout program philosophies of the GSUSA & GSCTX.
  • Responsible for checking incoming campers, volunteers, and staff and maintaining their health records in confidence.
  • Responsible for maintaining camp health center supplies and equipment inventory and replacement.
  • Responsible for being accessible at all times for treatment and emergency.
  • Administer all medications and treatments according to physicians orders and maintain records of all treatment.
  • Responsible for all medications including records, dispensing and locked control.
  • Responsible for general health supervision of the entire camp.
  • Responsible for health and first aid instruction upon request to staff and campers.
  • Responsible for checking units daily to ensure that health and safety procedures are met.
  • Responsible for completing insurance forms, incident forms, and accident forms upon illness or injury of camper or staff.
  • Responsible for reporting major illnesses and injuries to Summer Day Camp Manager.
  • Prepare first aid kits for emergency use to all units, plus one for each off-camp activity trip.
  • Responsible for the filing system of health cards and updating files.
  • Work with and teach children ages six through seventeen.
  • Provide quality customer service that resolves concerns in a timely manner.
  • Promote Girl Scouting in a positive manner to the public and co-workers.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Membership to GSUSA is required.


Job Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age by June 1, 2023.
  • Adheres to the Personnel Policy of Seasonal Camp Staff.
  • Current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and Personal Safety and American Red Cross or American Heart association CPR.
  • Ability to stimulate interest in basic cleanliness, health education, and safety practices
  • Readiness and ability to adapt to camp work situations.
  • Emotional stability needed to meet emergencies with good judgment.
  • Ability to inspire confidence in children and staff.
  • Knowledge of use and safe storage of medicines, pesticides, and other chemicals.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English is preferred.


Physical Requirements


  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and twisting upper body.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Capable of viewing computer monitor for long periods.


Environmental Demands


  • Outdoor activity and exposure to weather.


Other Working Conditions


  • Continuous requirement for professional demeanor and appropriate camp staff attire.
  • A criminal background check is required.
  • Continuous work as a team member and ability to work independently with some supervision.
  • Frequent work under stress and under pressure of deadlines with overlapping projects.
  • Continuous ability to work well with others.
