Christiana care is recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to perform pre-analytical preparation of laboratory specimens and limited waived analytical testing. This is a day shift, every other weekend position. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform pre-analytical preparation of specimens including but not limited to centrifuging, aliquoting, refrigerating, and freezing of specimens, slide preparation, and loading of instruments with reagents, consumables, and quality control and patient samples
• Performs limited waived analytical testing including but not limited to routine urinalysis, and occult blood tests
• Orders and receives add-on testing for patient specimens within the appropriate stability guidelines for add-on testing
• Delivers specimens to appropriate laboratory sections
• Answers telephone calls from physicians, nurses, and lab personnel
• Inventories and stocks laboratory supplies

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma required
• At least two years of applicable clinical (specimen processing, phlebotomy, laboratory) experience or equivalent college courses in the Healthcare field.
• Knowledge of pre-analytic methods of specimen management
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology
