Overview:

This is a temporary position for a construction project in Point Hope, Alaska. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assessing building structures to identify their structural components and determine the most efficient methods to perform demolitions.

Examining job site surroundings to determine safety.

Stripping building structures of any valuable or reusable materials, such as pipes, metal walls, and steel beams.

Removing debris, rubble, and hazardous materials from job sites.

Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.

Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures

Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations.

Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.

Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials.

Mix, pour, or spread concrete, using portable cement mixers.

Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.

Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.
Responsibilities:

Proficient with all hand and power small tools

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures.
  • Must be willing to work safely and follow all company policies
  • Knowledge/awareness of safety issues
  • Ability to perform duties and operation of tools of the trade in strict compliance with OSHA rules
  • Must maintain consistent and punctual attendance
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and complete assigned daily tasks
  • Must be able to follow directions
  • Work well within a team setting
  • Ability to interact with both co-workers and clients in a courteous and professional manner
Qualifications:

1 year of general labor experience.


  • Employee must possess a valid driver license and pass Smith Driver Training within one year of hire.
  • Individuals with one or more serious violations (DUI/DWI) shall not be authorized to drive vehicles, including company, personal or rental cars to conduct company business.

Employee must follow the UIC Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.

  • All employees must pass Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all UMIAQ Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.

If working on a DOT project, employees must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
