The Landfill Facility covers 1,200 acres and the physical landfill area is 316 acres. The “Hill” is the highest point in Manatee County at 130’ in elevation above sea level and you can even view the Skyway Bridge on a clear day. The Lena Rd Landfill buried an average of 1,034 tons per day in 2020 and is expected to last until 2041 based on the current population.

Landfill Operator:

As a Landfill Operator, you will be working in the Solid Waste Division where the goal is to keep contaminates from the county streets and waterways. A Landfill Operator safely and efficiently operates earthmovers, trash compactors, bulldozers, and backhoes to ensure trash and contaminates are properly disposed of within the Landfill area. It will be very important that you understand and follow regulatory compliance policies and procedures.

Job Description


What You Will Do

  • Performs skilled work in the operation of heavy equipment at the Manatee County landfill.
  • Operation of assigned equipment is normally a full-time or predominant task; however, other work is performed as required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of heavy equipment operation in a landfill application.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties.

  • Good knowledge and understanding of heavy equipment operation in a landfill application.
  • General knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties.
  • Able to resolve routine situations and problems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to be able to interact professionally and effectively with co-workers, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Works under moderate supervision.

Minimum Qualifications


Required Skills

  • 1+ years’ experience operating heavy construction and earth-moving-related equipment
  • Valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain CDL if required for a specific position within 30 days of hire. Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with Tanker Endorsement may be required depending on duties assigned.
