The Center for Care & Resilience at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites applications and nominations for the position of care coordinator. This is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track, limited duration appointment, staff position.

The mission of the Center for Care & Resilience (CCR) is to partner with students in need of support, guidance, or other intervention and connect them with the resources they need to be successful. Students, faculty, staff, visitors, family, and/or other community members, can identify and request support for students in need. The CCR provides strengths-based, inclusive, holistic support, consultation, and education to members of the University community. CCR works to promote individual students’ well-being and success and encourages wellness and personal safety.

The Position: Reporting to a care manager or assistant director, the care coordinator is responsible for:

  • Collaborating on the design of individual action plans for distressed students among resource units and agencies as appropriate
  • Serving as responder to the 974-HELP assistance line and all contacts associated with the Distressed Student Protocol
  • Opening care cases and coordinating community resources and facilitates access to medical care including coordination of hospitalizations, discharge planning, and crisis intervention
  • Providing follow-up to ensure compliance with recommendations made by supervisor or director
  • Supporting the Care & Resilience team by obtaining, recording, and reviewing updates for distressed students and facilitating information flow among resources
  • Tracking referrals for distressed students from administration

What We Require:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field and experience managing mental health related concerns is required.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organization skills
  • Demonstrated awareness, knowledge, and skills related to cultural competence and humility
  • Ability to express compassionate care and empathy to students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple projects
  • Working knowledge of treatment programs, mental health terminology, including diagnostic categories
  • General knowledge of medical privacy guidelines
  • Ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information

What We Prefer:

Education: Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, college student affairs administration or related field.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • One year of experience in a community mental health context, helping profession or crisis response setting.
  • Experience in case management in a higher education setting.
