Ray's Station Winery is needing a Bottling Line Mechanic Lead!!

Ray's Station Winery is part of Vintage Wine Estates which is one of the nation's largest wine producers with Ray's Station as it's central production facility.in Mendocino County. Ray's Station handles much of the botting for California brands that aren't estate-bottled. They handle custom crush and bottling projects for vintners.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Working closely with the Bottling Operations Managers, the Bottling Mechanic Lead is responsible for day-to-day bottling line activities and bottling maintenance staff in accordance with winemaking and operational policies to ensure maximum productivity, efficiency and quality of all wines produced.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs Bottling Maintenance swing shift and graveyard staff on all bottling lines, including the install, modification, trouble shooting and repair of all equipment in accordance with operational and safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring work of swing shift supports tracking spare parts inventories of all bottling line machine centers to ensure continuous workflow. Seeks out qualified cost-effective alternatives where available.
  • Interfaces with internal customers such as Quality, Bottling and Cellar personnel to address machinery issues in a timely manner.
  • In conjunction with Bottling Maintenance Manager proactively seeks out ways to anticipate and prevent machine center downtime by extracting data from downtime database and other tools.
  • Review all daily line downtime data to drive continuous improvement and maximize uptime efficiencies.
  • Through his staff members, assists with orientation and training of bottling workers consistent with established operational and safety procedures.
  • Facilitates and/or coordinates bottling equipment repairs and issues with the Bottling and Planning Department.
  • Identifies researches, communicates, and implements process improvement opportunities for operational efficiencies and wine quality.
  • Evaluates staffing needs and training opportunities in the area assigned and coordinates with Bottling Maintenance Manager to maximize labor resources.
  • Supports and communicates with all departments influenced by bottling maintenance operations, including, but not limited to Quality, Lab, Cellar, Warehouse, and Bottling.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of hazardous material (SDS), Cal OSHA requirements, and safe operating procedures assuring adherence by staff.
  • Ensures proper equipment use, PPE, maintenance, and storage for all bottling equipment and staff.
  • Works with the Bottling Maintenance Manager to ensure all mandatory safety programs and tail gate meetings are up-to-date and ongoing and staff is in compliance.
  • Works with Facilities Maintenance in the continued upkeep of the CMMS with regards to all bottling related equipment. Ensures bottling maintenance activities in CMMS are kept up to date.
  • Special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.

Management/Leadership

  • Approximately 75% of time, dedicated to tasks related to bottling line operations and maintenance. Manages bottling maintenance swing shift and graveyard staff in day-to-day activities, ensuring that proper maintenance and safety procedures are followed.
  • Promotes teamwork with all winery personnel.
  • Promotes winery GMP protocol with all winery personnel.
  • Trains and develops bottling maintenance staff in bottling operations, maintenance and safety procedures and assists Director with employee reviews.
  • Serves as a resource and mentor to bottling maintenance staff in winery operations, leadership and management.
  • Demonstrates leadership and professionalism and serves as a role model.
  • Along with the Bottling Operations Manager, acts as designated on-site leadership to Cellar, Lab, Quality, Warehouse and Bottling staff as necessary.

COMPETENCIES:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of all bottling operations and machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and document workflow using sound mathematical skills when necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to allocate resources of personnel and equipment to see that maintenance tasks are performed in a timely, efficient, and safe manner.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to act as the safety champion.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both written and verbal communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years advanced experience in all phases of bottling maintenance.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ management/supervisory experience.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office, email applications, and CMMS software (or other applicable experience).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • conditions in certain areas of the winery are cold, wet, slippery and noisy. May involve exposure to hazardous or conditions. Irregular shifts, including swing and graveyard may be required. Frequent walking, including going up and down stairs and ladders and bending are required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. continuously.
