The Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh Early Childhood Development Center seeks motivated and enthusiastic professionals for immediate openings as Lead Educators in Infant, Toddler, Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten classrooms at our Squirrel Hill location.
Should have knowledge of the Pennsylvania STARS program. Should have knowledge of the Reggio Emilia approach and constructivist social learning theory or a willingness to learn!
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for classroom oversight and implementation of approved curriculum in the Early Childhood team.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares weekly lesson plans for classroom within the guidelines of the program curriculum.
Assists in overall administration of Early Childhood Program operations, which include, but is not limited to: oversight of gymnasium, swimming pool and center carpool program responsibilities, special events, etc.
Maintains continuing education requirements, as stipulated by the Department of Welfare and NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children).
Maintains calm, flexible and caring demeanor with children and parents.
Oversees maintenance standards for Preschool rooms and equipment, and ensure compliance with safety and health regulations.
Adheres to Jewish Community Center policies and procedures.
Attends staff in-service training programs and staff meetings, as required.
Plans age appropriate activities for preschool age children that encourage physical, social and emotional growth.
Maintain a safe and healthy environment according to established standards.
Maintains weekly lesson plans and “what’s happening” sheets.
Prepares progress sheets on individual children and schedule parent/teacher conferences.
Interacts with parents and/or guardians on a daily basis.
Actively maintains and promotes agency customer service standards.
Ensures adherence to agency core values of respect, kindness, character and community within both staff culture and program development.
Generates necessary reports and documentation as needed and/or required.
Ability to verbally communicate effectively with others.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays, as required.
Ability to perform other related duties, as needed and/or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate or bachelor degree in Early Childhood with 30 EC credits. Non-related bachelor may apply, however must either be enrolled in an accredited EC program or have the willingness to earn a minimum of an associates in EC. A minimum of two years’ experience in a classroom is preferred.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Occasionally he/she is required to sit. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 40 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

This position is Monday through Friday and requires a flexible schedule.
All candidates must possess or obtain FBI, Act 33/34 clearances, Mandated Reporter training and First Aid/CPR Certification. Current physical examination report from a certified physician and an up to date TB vaccination.
