Lead Mechanic Job at Confidential

This individual will be responsible to oversee day to day operations in R&M while working on individual workload; train mechanics on heavy maintenance, repairs, servicing, and preventative maintenance to ensure quality of work; perform a variety of work in the general maintenance and repairs of trailers, parts, heavy equipment, and facility. Schedule, prioritize and delegate work and perform related duties and maintenance as assigned.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee shop floor, effectively answering questions and providing support to personnel
  • Train mechanics on all aspects of heavy equipment repair, servicing, and general duties
  • Coordinate vendor repair orders based on repairs needed while improving lower costs with vendors
  • Check and review work in process and follow-up for completion as scheduled
  • Review work orders and discuss work with supervisors
  • Monitor performance and quality of work of mechanics
  • Recommend changes in operations methods and procedures of company goals
  • Inspect, operate, or test equipment to diagnose malfunctions
  • Determine corrective action of maintenance through repairs manual and experience
  • Use tools such as common hand and power tools, hammers, hoists, saws, drillers, and wrenches
  • Maintain tools and/or equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in safe operating condition
  • Safely operate vehicles of various sizes in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment
  • Maintain appropriate records of activities
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance
  • Delegate work by identifying strengths and weaknesses of each employee and matching their assignments accordingly
  • Follow all Company safety guidelines and complete incident reports immediately when required
  • Local travel to other company sites may be required on an intermittent basis
  • Complete accident/damage/incident report immediately after any accident/incident or damage occurs
  • Maintain a high-level of customer service to internal and external customers
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 years' experience with heavy equipment, trucks, and production equipment
  • Proficient in the following systems: brakes, cooling, drive, electrical, exhaust and emissions control, heating and air conditioning, hydraulic, air, steering and suspension and coupling services
  • Management/Supervisory experience preferred
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the role

  • Flexible to work various hours, including weekends, busier during the summer

  • Ability to ambulate around the site

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and smell.
  • The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration.
  • Exposure to loud noises, hot/cold temperatures, dust, and other environmental factors

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
