Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Leads, assists, and performs the work of Assembly Operator, Senior Fabricator, Assembly Fabricator under the direction and authority of the supervisor. Can perform any of these jobs as needed to run the crew. Fills in for absent members as appropriate, moves staff as needed to meet production needs.
  • Controls and checks the work performed by assigned personnel in the assembly area to ensure the products going out the plant meet or exceed quality standards. Is the contact at the test pad for quality issues and resolving those issues before tank ships.
  • Operates and ensures proper operation of equipment in the assembly area; including but not limited to sandblast equipment, shell cut off saw, die grinders, 4” grinders. 7” grinders, hole saws, air movers, pencil grinders, floor jacks, forklifts, air monitors, respirators, dot-co saws, and vacuum pump.
  • Lays out, fabricates, and assembles tanks from shop drawings and certifies that they meet these drawings as to dimensions and assembly as required. Is ultimate authority to sign off when tanks are completed and that they meet spec.
  • Prepares stores requisitions and insures those proper raw materials are available. Procures stores before warehouse attendant is done for the day. Procures/ensures the needed parts to build a tank are made available as shells enter assembly.
  • Determines quality defects and coordinates corrective action, is expected to know the tank specifications, and can network with Supervisor or QA engineer as needed.
  • Completes records and reports (including, but not limited to, steam report, tank entry permit, production records, shift reports, tank records, etc.).
  • Operates material handling equipment. Performs operator inspection of forklift on each shift; checks fluid levels and various forklift component systems for malfunctions; replenishes fuel supply. Completes daily vehicle inspection forms.
  • Operates steam equipment, moves shells into and out of the steam area, runs the steam equipment to meet post cure specification.
  • Conducts monthly inventory, counting parts typically made or used in the assembly area (including but not limited to fittings (various and many), deflector plates, manways, reservoirs, nuts, bolts, nozzles, lift lugs, sumps, reservoirs, collars, orenco collars, polygons, stainless hardware, lift lugs, and others).
  • Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by the supervisor.
  • Participates in the safety and good housekeeping programs as established within the plant.
