The Teacher is responsible for the general planning and implementation of the daily program for children within an assigned age group, promoting the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of the children under his/her care while ensuring cleanliness and safety at all times. The Lead Teacher maintains classroom records and updates parents on the progress of their child on a daily basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Program Planning

o Prepares and implements age appropriate weekly lesson plans which respond to each child’s individual developmental levels, physical and emotional needs.

o Provides a variety of developmentally appropriate materials and activities.

o Provides responsive care to all children by adapting care to the interests and needs of the individual child and the group.

· Interaction with Children

o Interacts frequently, affectionately and respectfully with children.

o Respects and observes children’s interests. Engages and communicates constructively with individual children during activities and routines.

o Available and responsive to children’s needs, questions and requests, and acknowledges feelings with sensitivity.

o Encourages and models behavior that is developmentally appropriate and practices positive discipline techniques.

· Interactions with Families

o Demonstrates a friendly, courteous and professional demeanor. Responds to comments and concerns with sensitivity, interest and respect.

o Provides a classroom environment that encourages parent participation.

o Communicates with families regarding their children’s development and care through daily sheets and direct conversations.

· Physical Environment/Health and Safety

o Follows all safety and health rules of the center.

o Supervises children at all times, ensuring safety and maintaining ratios.

o Keeps environment and equipment safe and clean. Encourages respect for classroom materials. Assumes an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.

· Teamwork and Professionalism

o Is knowledgeable and complies with all employee policies/procedures.

o Reports to work on time and maintains consistent attendance.

o Demonstrates flexibility and openness to new ideas. Accepts constructive criticism.

o Attends staff meetings and obtains required in-service hours on an annual basis.

o Establishes and maintains relationships of cooperation and respect with all staff.

o Provides coaching to Assistant Teacher and Support Staff. Reviews and provides feedback to Assistant Teacher and Support Staff on all written communications and prepared materials, checking for accuracy and content.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Certificated Teachers: Must hold a valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate

· Non-Certificated Teachers: Must meet one of the following requirements:

o Holds a bachelor’s or an associate degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, education, or child/youth development;

o Have a Child Development Associate Credential; OR

o Have a high school diploma or GED AND

§ 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for young children as indicated by a positive reference from a former employer or supervisor.

§ Submit a written plan for the Department of Health and Human Services approval to acquire at least three credit hours or 45 clock hours of training in administration, early childhood education, education, or child/youth development, in a period not to exceed six months.

· At least 18 years of age and of good moral character.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

All employees serve as role models for children, therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children. Staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, as well as appropriate role modeling.

Teachers must demonstrate the following skills:

· Excellent communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude/disposition.

· Effective verbal and listening communication skills.

· Ability to effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities.

· Ability to make decisions on behalf of the children and protect their well-being.

· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully and safely perform the essential functions of this job.

· Often required to stand, at least 90% of the workday.

· Required to stoop and bend on child’s level frequently.

· Expected to physically react appropriately and immediately to unexpected circumstances which may include lifting and pushing up to 40 lbs.

· Must have the ability to consistently lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

· Must be able to use proper lifting procedures and seek appropriate assistance with heavy lifting when possible.

Pay: $13.00 - $18.00 per hour
