is currently seeking a team-focused, innovative, and results-oriented Lead Packaging Designer who has a desire to contribute to our clients’ success and is looking for new learning experiences and opportunities for career growth. This position will have the option of either working out of a Foth local office, or a US Based Remote work from home location.

Position Overview:

Primary focus will be designing modifications for existing packaging systems and designing new packaging systems for our clients. In this role you will assist with performing existing packaging system line audits, analyze results, develop recommendations for improvements, prepare reports, and submit all required documentation to our client.

You must be able to design package handling systems, review project drawings and submittals, and coordinate project work with vendors and equipment suppliers. Regular functions of this role include: field laser scanning, field equipment inspections at client sites, check-out and acceptance testing at vendor facilities, and field installation, commissioning, equipment start-up support at client sites.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilize discretion and independent judgment in the coordination and execution of specific assignments and may have overall responsibility for project or service work product.
  • Lead and support the mechanical design effort on packaging projects
  • Execute project work per committed project scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Prepare conceptual designs, layouts, and prepare detailed design packages for bid and installation on packaging projects.
  • Perform QAQC of design packages for packaging systems.
  • Interface with vendors on an as-needed basis
  • Documentation development and management
  • Work as part of a collaborative project team
  • Work in a manufacturing environment gathering field data and conducting field investigations, when required for project work.
  • Lead design reviews, internally and with client
  • Provide startup support and troubleshooting on installed systems
  • Travel to other Foth offices or client locations will be regularly required (25-35% annually)

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in applied field of study or equivalent technical experience
  • 12+ years of packaging system design experience in systems engineering in consumer products
  • Proficient with using AutoCAD
  • Experience with 3D design software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Autodesk Inventor
  • Autodesk Navisworks
  • Autodesk ReCap
  • MicroStation
  • Experience with integration systems and systems design in food and beverage products to include experience developing system concepts, and executing final system designs
  • Knowledge of industry standard secondary packaging equipment
  • Individual product packaging and wrapping systems (primary packaging)
  • Box, bag, crate, tray, and carton equipment (secondary packaging)
  • Case erection equipment and case packing equipment (tertiary packaging)
  • Inspection and rejection systems; check weight, xray, code inspection, label presence / placement, etc.
  • High speed palletizing, stretch wrapping systems and pallet conveyors
  • Various conveyor types and appropriate applications for handling specific types of materials (i.e. open product, wrapped product, cased, pallets, etc.)
  • Ancillary packaging line equipment such as bulk glue delivery systems, balers, container and case coders
  • Understanding of balanced line flow for packaging systems
  • Simulation software
  • Performed work in an engineering consulting environment
The base compensation listed for this job posting reflects a general range for the posted position. ($85,000 - $105,000) Base compensation will vary based on factors such as: years of experience, location, level of responsibility and licenses/certifications. In addition to base compensation, Foth members may be eligible to receive bonuses through our Earned Performance Incentive program. All employees are eligible for On-the-Spot bonuses. Exempt members are also eligible for either quarterly and/or annual bonuses.
