Job Summary

Production Lead Men have oversight of production personnel under the direct supervision of the Plant Superintendent. An individual in this position operates mobile and plant equipment and participates in general labor tasks in a pit, quarry and preparation plant.

This job interfaces, on a daily basis, with the maintenance employees and the rest of the operations in this location. The employee holding this job must perform the work activities in a correct, accurate and timely fashion because every single work activity in our line of business is crucial for the whole operation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain a good housekeeping in the plant and work areas-using shovel and broom
  • Dig and maintain drainage ditches
  • Assist mechanics and semi-skilled personnel
  • Walk entire plant and inspect machinery (shakers, conveyors, screen towers)
  • Act as a Leadman over production projects, repairs, etc.
  • Assist and perform emergency repairs throughout the plant and quarry
  • Uses bars, calipers, gauges, precision instruments, hands tools and wrenches
  • Grease bearings throughout plant
  • Maintain necessary production records
  • Ability to inspect mechanical equipment to determine what repairs are needed
  • Ability to direct personnel under him in executing and assign task
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of other operators and plant personnel
  • Maintain assigned equipment in good working order
  • Drive and operate truck to transport and dump
  • Perform safety walk around the equipment inspection before shift
  • Records down time, and actions taken
  • Fill all necessary reports
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Prior experience required with similar or same equipment or machinery.
  • Ability to carry out not only simple, but complex oral and written instructions and deal with problems from standardized situations and work experience.
  • Good mathematical skills, including basic math, fractions and conversions of four-five digit numbers and common units of measurement in both metric and decimal system.
  • Ability to read and understand English sufficiently to be able to read technical information contained in manuals, reports, and Ability to operate equipment in reverse using mirrors.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and/or moving of 50 pounds maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing to 25 pounds.
  • Experience leading team or overseeing projects and repairs, a plus.
  • Ability to communicate well with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other Mechanics, maintenance personnel, co-workers and outside contractors.
  • High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform the work activities safely and productively.
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge to detect potential safety hazards and breakdown of plant and quarry machinery and equipment and respond accordingly.
  • Ability to operate standard and automatic welding machines and equipment, and powered mechanic tools. Ability to cut, and mount fabricated components needed to repair equipment.
  • Ability to develop, read, and uses mechanical, electrical, and structural sketches-blue prints-and drawings in order to perform repairs, structural metal modifications and/or erecting structures.
  • Ability to identify and select the appropriate material and equipment necessary to perform the correct mechanical work and repair.
  • Ability to comprehend additional training in relation to the performing of the work duties.
  • Ability to develop other technical and management skills for future promotion.
  • High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform the work activities safely and productively.
