Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a dedicated, creative, and meticulous Writer to create engaging and respectful content for our Fallen Hero emails, newsletter, blogs, Wall of Heroes, and social media. Responsibilities include researching backgrounds, verifying information, creating legacy stories, and editing your or other writers’ work.

This is different from your typical writing position; working as a Legacy story writer for Til Valhalla Project (TVP) is a unique and rewarding opportunity; however, it is challenging. Successful writers will create respectful Legacy stories honoring the lives and service of Military, First Responders, and Law Enforcement Fallen Heroes.

The Ideal candidate can compartmentalize the content within the story and focus on the privilege of writing about our fallen heroes and the service they led. We share these stories in emails, blogs, social media, and physical newsletters for families, supporters, and our members.

To ensure success, you must meet strict deadlines and work well under pressure. A great Writer should have exceptional writing and research skills, perform proper research, and write compelling respectful copy.

What We Expect From You:

• Create respectful, original, and well-researched legacy stories that honor the fallen Heroes.
• Research and confirm the hero’s information to support your writing.
• Use all your findings to prepare clean, concise, and factual stories.
• Tailor your writing style to meet departmental guidelines.
• Edit and polish existing content to improve readability.
• Proofread content for errors and inconsistencies before submission.
• Submit completed assignments in the requisite document format (Email, Newsletter, Blogs, Wall of Heroes)
• Meet all regular and recurring deadlines.
• Work with the team to create or research processes to create cohesive, accurate content.
• Cross-train and aid other departments during lulls in your day.
• Other duties as assigned

At a minimum:

• Must submit a portfolio of articles written
• High school diploma or equivalent
• In-depth knowledge of Military/LEO/First Responder Ranks and abbreviations
• Advanced content writing or copywriting experience and editing skills
• Proven writing and research experience, preferably in a similar role
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
• A professional yet approachable demeanor.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and an ethical mindset
• Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• An enthusiastic, positive person who embraces work with a sense of urgency and persistence within a fast-paced environment

Plus, if You Have:

• Veteran, Military, First Responder, or Law Enforcement background
• Bachelor's degree in English, Communication Studies, Journalism, or a related field
• Experience working in Klaviyo Email and SMS automation platform

Requires the ability to:

• Demonstrate dependable daily attendance and work output.
• Meet deadlines and accurately fact-check information.
• Protect confidential information.
• Work on multiple writing projects simultaneously.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Work with minimal supervision
• Respond well to constructive feedback.
