PFY is seeking to hire one full-time Youth Health Advocate Coordinator (YHA Coordinator) who will have the primary role of overseeing the professional and interpersonal development of Long Island's future LGBTQ+ leaders. To be successful in their role, the YHA Coordinator, will have an understanding of the needs of LGBTQ+ young people of color and demonstrate the core values of the agency; respect, integrity, inclusiveness, collaboration, and dependability.

Job Title: YHA Coordinator

Hours: 40 hours/week

Reports to: Assistant Director – Operations and Programs

Work Site: Bellmore, NY

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for the oversight of YHA (Youth Health Advocate) employment program of 6-10 LGBTQ+ identified young people of color ages 17-24. This includes recruitment, providing bi-weekly supervision, facilitating monthly peer meetings, providing professional development, ongoing feedback and skill assessment, and maintaining employee records.

2. Responsible for oversight of all YHA program activities to ensure deliverables are met and maintaining all required electronic and written records. This includes linkages to Point of Care Testing Services, Case Management (HNS), I Am Workshops, Condom Distribution, Social Media Campaigns, and the Annual Peer Training Marathon.

3. Responsible for maintaining relationships and acting as the liaison for middle and high schools in priority towns in communities of color (Hempstead, Roosevelt, Uniondale, and Freeport) to ensure the provision of workshops within each school’s GSA and to promote PFY programs & services to students within each school.

4. Responsible for composing monthly YHA Program Narrative Report and Monthly YHA Statistics Report and submitting to Assistant Director – Operations & Programs for review

5. Responsible for identifying social spaces and social media sites where communities gather and conducting outreach to engage LGBTQ+ individuals of color in PFY’s programs and services.

6. Conduct Community Education workshops for students in school and community-based organization settings on the topics of: Understanding Gender, Understanding Sexual Orientation, and How to Be an Effective Ally.

7. Provide clinical support one Friday per month during PFY’s weekly drop-in center for LGBTQ+ youth ages 13-20 to observe YHA Peer Navigators and model skills.

8. Must adhere to all HIPAA, OSHA, and HIV/AIDS policies and legal requirements/regulations.

9. Additional tasks as assigned by Assistant Director – Operations and Programs

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or other Health and Human Services field required. Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling, plus work experience with adolescents, including HIV prevention work and case management preferred. Proven competency in providing services to LGBTQ+ youth, particularly youth of color, is required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is also highly preferred. Public speaking experience and expertise is also required. Ability to engage and work collaboratively with diverse communities: health and human services, educational, communities of color, LGBTQ+ communities, and civic and religious organizations. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Work schedule requires occasional weekend availability. Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Social Media platforms preferred. Travel throughout Nassau County and Western Suffolk County is required – must have driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year
