POSITION TITLE: LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE – FULL PERFORMANCE

STATUS: Permanent / Full-Time (1.0 FTE)

SALARY: $4,306 per month at 1.0 FTE | HE08 | BU10

LOCATIONS: These positions are located in various departments in HHSC Kaua’i Region. Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consist of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalāheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalāheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipū, and The Clinic at Kapa’a, are all part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

JOB FUNCTIONS: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will be responsible for independently performing the full range of practical nursing care and related technical work and any other duties as assigned. The position may frequently require intense work activity and the ability to handle many processes simultaneously while prioritizing primary functions. The position must interface with administration, providers, staff, and public and private agencies within the community and must have the ability to use tact and diplomacy in ensuring that department standards are maintained. A high level of confidentiality is required.

Candidates must be able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on the hospital/clinic’s operational needs. Positions located in The Kaua’i Region Clinics are subject to travel to and from different clinic locations within Kaua’i Region as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Licensure: Valid license with the State of Hawai’i as a practical nurse (Evidence of license is required);

Candidates applying for Kaua’i Region Clinics must have a current, type 3 valid driver’s license.

Certification: Current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers certification from the American Heart Association.

Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience in a hospital or similar health institution as a (1) licensed practical nurse, (2) licensed vocational nurse, or (3) registered professional nurse. Such work experience must have involved the performance of a variety of personal care, nursing care, and related technical work for a caseload of patients and required and demonstrated possession of the knowledge of practical nursing principles and practices including patient age groups and the developmental process characteristic of these age groups; and the ability to apply them in providing care/treatment that is appropriate to the age, medical condition and/or developmental status of the patients served; and observe record and report on the general and specific physical and mental conditions of the patients, and the signs and symptoms which may be indicative of significant changes in the condition of such patients.

Ability to: Apply practical nursing principles and practices; read, write, speak, understand and communicate effectively with others in English; maintain records and prepare reports; respond quickly and take appropriate action in emergencies; follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective relationships with other staff, patients and others; possess an understanding of multiple cultures, and keep current in the field.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
