Position Description:

A Licensed Practical Nurse who cares for ill or injured patients with in the medical office setting.

Primary Objectives:

• Promote a safe and healthy workplace.
• Ability to function in a stressful, emergency situation.
• Communicate effectively with fellow employees, patients, healthcare agencies, and others needing assistance.

Major areas of Responsibilities and Specific Responsibilities of the Job

Administer Patient care

• Administer prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on patients' charts.
• Observe patients, charting and reporting changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.
• Provide basic patient care or treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, or performing catheterizations.
• Answer patients' calls and determine how to assist them.
• Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
• Be able to take a manual blood pressure.
• Work as part of a healthcare team to assess patient needs, plan and modify care, and implement interventions.
• Collect samples, such as blood, urine, or sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
• Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.

Utilize Medical Equipment Sterilize equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave.

• Assemble and use equipment, such as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, or oxygen suppliers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Job Requirements Broad knowledge and experience in medical terminology

• Above average skills in documentation
• Excellent skills in communications
• Demonstrated ability to maintain patient and practice confidentiality
• Demonstrated ability to be a team player
• General knowledge of medical office policies and procedures
• Experience in medical field

Education and Experience Degree or equivalent experience: High School Diploma or GED and to graduate from an accredited LVN/LPN program.

• Specialized training in: Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia

Physical Demands While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Ability to lift and carry 25lbs.
