GENERAL FUNCTION: The LIVESTRONG Instructor is responsible for organizing and instructing cancer survivors through exercise routines and providing hope and support throughout the program. This position may involve early morning, evening and weekend responsibilities. This job is performed to standard when all work is completed accurately and on time, with minimal supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have completed YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principals, Foundations of Strength and Conditioning, and LIVESTRONGtraining
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Requires current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
• Effective Communication; written, oral and through presentations
• Must have strong collaborative work ethic
• Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and implement safe and effective program activities that are stated within LIVESTRONG mandate to build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance and improve functional ability.
• Provide participants with a supportive environment and a feeling of community with their fellow class participants/survivors, YMCA staff and members.
• Maintain confidential records of all participants’ attendance, skill levels and progress through pre and post program assessments.
• Responsible for understanding the physical, mental and emotional limitations of each class participant due to cancer type, treatments, or other medical complication and challenge.
• Develop individualized exercise programs for each participant based upon intake interview, assessment and physical limitations.
• Ability to process, understand and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
• Responsible for watching and guarding participant during work out to prevent injury.
• Set up and break down of necessary equipment and ensure that all equipment is in safe working condition.
• Maintain quality service by following organization standards.
• Maintain facilities in clean and organized fashion.
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
• Perform any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the North Penn YMCA.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 - $20.00 per hour
