The Giorgi business follows the biology of the mushroom we grow and sell. First, we need to make the substrate in which the mushroom fungus grows. Substrate production consists of two phases, Phase I and Phase II. Secondly, then grow and market the mushrooms produced.

The Giorgi Tunnel facility is responsible for Phase II of the substrate production process. The facility operates seven days of the week, 52 weeks of the year. After receiving the Phase I substrate and passing it through the Phase II process it is delivered to each of our 5 GMC customer farms located in Berks County.

The “Machine operator / Tunnels Driver” position is an hourly position working 52 – 60 hours weekly. Each work week includes one weekend day. There are a variety of machines operated you will be required to become proficient in their operation which includes tractor trailers.

Depending on the assigned job duty start times will vary from 2-3am through to 7-8 am.

Respirator use is required at various stages of the process and consequentially it is a requirement that every employee be clean shaven.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

· At all times follow facility safety standards and safe work practices

· Proficiently operate tunnel machinery

o Loader

o Cassette

o Pulling Winch

o Skid steer

o Forklift

o Scissor lift

o Man lift

o Tractor Trailers

· Perform cleaning duties EVERYDAY to maintain sanitation in the facility which includes cleanring: winches, cassette, floors of the tunnels, tunnel nets, all tools and machinery used within the tunnel facility,etc.

· Follow detailed instruction in applying fertilizer, spawn, and chemical to ensure QC

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Required to be on your feet 75% of the day

· Ability to lift 50 pounds

· Ability to wear half-face respirator and PAPR (Clean shaven)

· Work from heights on a platform, ladder, scissor lift, and boom lift

REQUIRED SKILLS

· Able to operate a standard-manual transmission (drive a stick shift)

· Obtain a medical card to drive 53’ tractor trailer combinations

· Have a valid Pennsylvania driver license or be able to obtain one within the first month of employment

· Ability to learn. This position requires a lot of training and the employee must be curious and interested in learning many different things related to our operations.
