SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Mechanic position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain process and facility equipment in wastewater plants. This work is completed according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the company’s business goals and objectives. This is a mobile position encompassing the New Jersey and New York service areas. The Maintenance Mechanic reports directly into the Manager of Site Services - Maintenance and Repair in NSU's Hillsborough Warehouse.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate hand and power tools of all types: mechanical hoists, core drill, hammer drill, and a variety of other equipment and instruments
  • Assist with site preparation for various repair projects
  • Assist other craft workers when needed
  • Perform general preventative and corrective maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as valve replacement, pump replacement, piping repairs
  • Diagnose problems; perform general mechanical and electrical repairs
  • Troubleshoot faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision
  • Work conscientiously and be aware of all safety hazards
  • Available for 24hr alarm response and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Be prepared to discuss in a professional manner the progress of repair with employer, client, visitors or regulatory personnel
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Ability to work independently as needed
  • Ability to travel within the Tri-State Area or other service areas as needed
  • Availability for overnight stays for construction projects occasionally
  • Maintain receipts and accurate records for fuel, mileage, timesheets, expenses, etc.
  • Maintain up to date company safety training and standards at all times
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude with colleagues, clients, regulatory agencies, etc.
  • Possess a general understanding of water and wastewater treatment plant operations
  • Operate a motor vehicle
  • Operate landscape equipment such as mowers and trimmers
  • Operate power washer
  • Climbing ladders, stairs, etc.
  • 40-hour work week – Monday-Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as requested
  • Overtime as required
  • Ability to operate an Autocrane a plus
  • Ability to operate a forklift a plus
  • Other duties as assigned by management


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must maintain a safe driving record
  • Exposure and ability to work under all weather conditions
  • Confined Space Entry Training – This may be required on occasion after thorough training session provided by NSU
  • Chemical exposure – Training will be provided by NSU for proper handling if needed.
  • Basic computer skills


CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

  • Valid US Driver’s License
  • CDL license (preferred)
  • Autocrane Certification (preferred – NSU internal training provided)
  • Forklift Certification (preferred – NSU internal training provided)
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (preferred)

  • Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Occasionally exposed to extreme heat or cold (non-weather)
  • Occasionally exposed to blood borne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noise (examples: metal can manufacturing, large earth-moving equipment)
  • Occasionally exposed to very loud noise (example: jack hammer work)


EQUIPMENT:

  • Company vehicle, e.g. pickup truck or van
  • Various hand and power tools
  • Computer and/or tablet and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, and computer printer
  • Electrical troubleshooting equipment
  • Personal Protective Equipment when required
  • Autocrane
