Marklund is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician who will be based out of our Elgin, IL facility and travels to our Bloomingdale and Geneva facilities as needed. This full-time position works regular hours of Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm and follows a rotating on-call work schedule.

Who We Are:

Marklund is a nonprofit organization that provides residential, educational and therapy services to infants, children, teens and adults with serious and profound developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs. With three residential locations – the Marklund Hyde Center in Geneva, the Marklund Philip Center in Bloomingdale, and the Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin, it is currently home to nearly 178 residents. The Marklund Day School offers Multi-Needs and Life Skills programs for children and young adults with multiple medical needs, and those diagnosed on the autism spectrum. In addition, our Community Day Services program at each site is a therapeutic day program for adults who reside at Marklund and those who come in from the community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Install various new or replacement equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions on HVAC and other equipment
  • Must comply with all new EPA rules and regulations in proper handling of CFCs including operating recovery unity, vacuum pumps, scales, gauges, and ECT used in charging HVAC equipment
  • Test all sprinkler, fire panel systems and perform employee, patient fire alarm tests as required by fire and safety codes
  • Read and study service and repair manuals for new and existing equipment
  • Read and understand blueprints, electrical schematics, equipment cut sheets and diagrams
  • Must be willing to complete various short courses and seminars in some of all of the following areas: pneumatics, electronics, electricity, welding/soldering, refrigeration, and others as directed
  • Adhere to all documentation procedures related to preventative maintenance and be familiar with all code and licensing entity requirements such as IDPH, DHS, EPA
  • Make all necessary repairs to plumbing fixtures, doors, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, drains, electrical outlets, light fixtures, and any other minor repairs
  • Repair of mechanical equipment as well as work order requests, responding in a timely manner to customer needs
  • Rotate on-call pager
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment
  • Maintain flexible schedule
  • Make recommendation to improve equipment operation and preventative maintenance
  • Maintain a clean safe working environment for clients and employees
  • During winter season, maintenance of sidewalks and roadways including snow plowing, snow shoveling, salting of sidewalks, loading salt bags into vehicles and driving of maintenance snow removal vehicles
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of supplies necessary to facilitate repairs of equipment

Required Experience:


Maintenance Technician Qualifications:

  • 1 - 3 years of experience desired

  • A strong electrical/mechanical background: HVAC certification preferred

  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance

  • Own hand tools

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job and to meet its functional and environmental requirements
