Brief Description of Job:


Assist with proper maintenance of all equipment including building and grounds. Help with the maintenance of a food manufacturing facility that operates under a very high set of standards.


Essential Job Duties:


Understand and follow SOP’s (Standard Operation Procedures) as written for the Maintenance Department. Follow through on the established programs provided for the plants maintenance program. Document call outs or maintenance requests, daily tie in logs of preventive and scheduled maintenance (daily, weekly or monthly).


Ongoing inspection of machinery and mechanical equipment for defects. Upon start of each shift, walk through the plant to complete visual inspection of belts, conveyors, equipment and discuss any problems or issues with supervisors or other personnel.


Troubleshoot common breakdowns of the machinery within the plant. Abide by and practice the proper lock-out/tag-out procedure prior to and during maintenance on machinery. Visual or manual check of machines to verify problems us as timing, electrical, plc, air pressure/hydraulics, bearing, etc. Perform testing and replace smaller parts such as nuts/bolts, relay switches, fuses, disconnects, breakers, etc.

Perform grounds maintenance to include mowing lawns, shoveling snow, cleaning debris from the parking lots, use weed eater, weed sprayer, spread ice melt, etc.

Perform repairs and/or complete maintenance on septic systems or irrigation pipes. This could include such tasks as thawing pipes, replacing pipes, wrap heat tape on pipes, dig up the ground (hand shovel or back hoe) etc.

Dismantles various machines or equipment (pumps, mills, motors, conveyor belts, ovens, condensers, freezer, heating system, safety guards, etc.) to gain access to defective parts and repair them, using various hand and power tools.

Repairs or replaces various belts on machinery/equipment. Check seal alignment. Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, gaskets, pulleys, and/or other parts of machines. Complete repair or replacement of wiring.

Measures, cuts, and installs pipe and tubing for gas, propane, water, air, and septic/sewer lines, using ratchet, cutting die, hack saw, and threading die.

Repairs and replaces gages, valves, pressure regulators, pipe, adapters, joints, elbows, bands, clamps, and other plumbing equipment.

Paint walls, floors, railings, and other fixtures of establishment, using paint spray gun, brush roller, power washer, etc. Replace and repair light, ceiling tiles, etc. May replace and repair brick, plaster, concrete (set forms/rebar), drywall, sheet rock, etc.

May fabricate and install new parts. Operation of various tools or equipment such as cutting torch, plasma cutter, hammer drill, welding equipment, etc.

Operation of a forklift, backhoe, hand truck, dolly, geni lift, scissor lift, bucket lift to move, repair, fabricate, etc.

Clean and organize shop area, maintain and accurate inventory of parts. Order and/or pick up inventory, parts, tools, supplies, chemical, lubricants, etc. from local hardware store.

Basic hand and power tools, drills, saws, nail gun, compressors, wrenches, screw driver, hammer, grease gun, wire feed-welding equipment, carts, scaffolding, riding mower, weed eater, weed sprayer, ladder(s), paint sprayer, paint brush or roller, meter tester, come-a-long, plasma cutter, hammer drill,



Vehicles or Moving Equipment Driven/Operated:


Fork lift, pick up, backhoe, or riding lawn mower


Training/Preparation (Education, License, Certifications):


A minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial repair trade such as electrical, welding, mechanical, HVAC, etc. Ability to pass the 2 basic mechanical tests that are given to all personnel.


Basic mathematical skills, good oral and written communication skills and good reasoning ability. Fork lift certification after 1 month of employment, valid Montana Driver’s License and minimal violations as reported by Motor Vehicle Department.
