We have announced that World Energy is on target to build the first and largest production facility of green hydrogen by 2025 in Atlantic Canada - a 3 gigawatt wind project to power electrolyzers off the coast of Newfoundland. Additionally, World Energy will be building a green hydrogen project in Houston, TX that will provide hydrogen as feedstock for the largest planned power-to-liquid sustainable aviation fuel refinery. And we are currently pursuing the expansion of our existing hydrogen capabilities to include making green hydrogen from renewable natural gas in our Southern California refinery to support growth of the heavy-duty mobility sector.

Our team is growing, and we are looking for a Manager, GH2 Strategic Development,to create the plans in support of our growth in green hydrogen.

Job description:

This role will manage the business planning and strategic implementation of our on-going projects, diving deep into the considerations of technology, partnerships, and commercial agreements with end customers. The job will require entrepreneurial know-how and the ability to create novel solutions to future challenges that we cannot yet see. Reporting to the Vice President of Business Development and Innovation, you will be responsible for taking a customer-first approach in developing a hydrogen strategy and creating a long and short term and business plan, using engineering, business, and knowledge of green hydrogen to help each conceptual project get to physical reality and include all aspects of the business plan. This position will be in our Paramount location in Southern California.

Responsibilities:

Develop market-leading expertise in hydrogen and develop World Energy’s value proposition for its hydrogen businesses.

Research and develop techno-economic analysis, feasibility studies, and long-term business plans for hydrogen, starting with the customer first; create executable and thorough project and business plans for each potential project and site to include all business and project milestones to bring to market. Use project engineering, knowledge of hydrogen science and strategic business planning to bring to fruition.

Create partnerships and synergistic business relationships and opportunities to develop the market to take on supply of green hydrogen produced. Act as offtake leader in the sales and distribution of products.

Evaluate potential markets, business opportunities, and partnerships for raising capital and create strategic partnerships throughout various aspects to the value chain; create coalitions and mutually beneficial partnerships.

Proactively educate potential customers, partners, and users of green hydrogen on the necessity and multiple benefits and uses of the green hydrogen product. Create detailed analysis and specific plans around volume scenarios, market growth, and cost benefit analysis for the transportation possibilities. Create projected customer value and customer preferred contract structures e.g. long-term fixed price, short-term indexed, price volatility, etc.

Stay apprised of all elements of the hydrogen value chain, particularly the cost of transport and point of sale delivery systems.

Monitor local and global policies and regulations impacting the hydrogen market.

Prepare and present competitive market analysis and incorporate it into World Energy’s business plans.

Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry players along the hydrogen value chain.

Perform modeling necessary to evaluate strategy and potential projects.

Work closely with renewable energy companies through bi-lateral agreements and PPA to supply green energy to generate competitively priced GH2.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

MBA degree preferred

10+ years of experience working in the energy industry

Understanding of the hydrogen value chain and hydrogen technologies

Experience working for an organization with global business operations

Experience building business plans from a blank slate

Existing network of suppliers, potential partners, policy makers, and in the hydrogen space

Entrepreneurial minded and strong self-starter approach to work requiring minimal supervision

Demonstrated negotiation skills

Depth of understanding of the green hydrogen economy, energy transition, and the full range of end users is a must

Deep knowledge of green hydrogen markets, incentives, policies in the US and Canadian markets Europe

Working knowledge of the power markets and renewable energy

Hands on direct experience with Hydrogen generation

Ability to travel, including internationally
