Offering more than 100 certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree programs, Daytona State College (DSC) has responded to the education and workforce training needs in our region for more than 60 years. The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites, with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering, technology and more.


We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Manager I.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills.
  • Candidates should have 2-3 years of progressive experience in a college or career service setting with experience in staff supervision, budget management, employer development, and serving student needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Development, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of career readiness and NACE Competencies.
  • Demonstrated experience with the development and execution of programming and events.

Responsibilities: This position will assist the Director of Advising in providing operational oversight and management of Academic and Career Advising services and staff. Assists in the analysis of program effectiveness and establishes future direction of services and programming. This position will assist students identify career goals, academic pathways, prepare for employment, and locate job opportunities by working directly with advisors, faculty, and employers in the community. This position consists of individual student advising, presentations to classrooms, groups, and departments, career event attendance and participation, and budget management.


Working Hours: This position will work evening and weekend hours during peak registration periods and other times as deemed necessary. This position will travel to all College campuses as needed to perform work related duties and evaluate departmental activities and events.


The starting salary is $42,500.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Plan, oversee and assist in developing and delivering academic pathway and career programs, training materials and workshops designed to prepare students for graduation, transfer, and entering the job market.
  • Research and apply industry knowledge, best practices and strategies to optimize individual and team capabilities to meet and exceed customer expectations on career and professional development coaching.
  • Provide advising services to students and alumni engaged in the early stages of the career development process: reflection and self-assessment, career exploration, decision-making, goal-setting, and implementation.
  • Participate in meetings with students and alumni seeking assistance with choosing an academic pathway, resume development, brand marketing, job search strategies, executing a career change, effective networking and interviewing.
  • Collaborate with employers, faculty, alumni and College partners to maintain awareness and offer cohesive communication about employer expectations, recruiting trends and hiring events to better prepare our students for post-graduation success.
  • Educate and inform students through engaging programs about the benefits of internships and other experiential learning opportunities to their career development. This may include, but is not limited to, conducting information sessions in person and online, advertising employer opportunities through various communications channels, and garnering students’/graduates’ success stories from these experiences.
  • Facilitate students’ professional skills development in preparation for these experiences through educational programs delivered in person and virtually.
  • Serve as lead or work with colleagues to produce a variety of campus events, both live and virtually that assist students and alumni connect to employers.
  • Coordinate with colleges and universities to schedule informational visits and events.
  • Initiate relationships with faculty and provide support to academic departments interested in increasing their students' awareness and competency in desirable professional skills as well as their participation in internships and employer-hosted experiential learning opportunities.
  • Coordinates with College staff and department supervisors to implement the annual career/jobs fairs and produce reports as requested.
  • Assists Director with interviewing, hiring, and training of professional and student staff.
  • Manage and maintains budgets and various reports, records, and/or programs.
  • Researches and troubleshoot areas that need development and recommend improvements.
  • Responds to inquiries and/or concerns from students, staff, or the public to solve problems or discrepancies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic & Career Advising.

  • Excellent interpersonal as well as written, verbal communication, and presentation skills in person and digitally.
  • Strong commitment to student success with the ability to maintain a professional, positive and service-oriented attitude.
  • Strong skills related to effective job preparation/search strategies, and solid project management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Teams.
  • Must be able to take direction and work effectively and professionally on their own.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to a wide variety of stakeholders, i.e. employers, faculty, staff and students, alumni and parents both in-person and virtually.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong ability to think analytically and strategically in a highly collaborative working environment; fostering productive working relationships is essential.
  • Must be well organized and able to prioritize effectively.
  • Must be able to remain flexible and adapt to shifting priorities, as necessary.
  • Must be able to work effectively with limited supervision and meet deadlines.
