POSITION SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the manufacturing processes in the industrial plant environment. The Manufacturing Engineer develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. The Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Director of Manufacturing Execution & Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

JOB FUNCTIONS
Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and improving material workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout and determining recommendations for improvement.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Manufacturing interface with planning and engineering design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods for both assembly and the fabrication areas.
  • Design and implement tooling jigs for maximizing efficiency throughout the manufacturing processes.
  • Analyzes material handling processes to ensure efficient material flow and focus on reduction of non-confirming products.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Analyzes manufacturing processes to ensure company KPI’s can be accomplished.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Responsible for process routing sheet development and accuracy, performing time studies and methods analysis as required for verification.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to continuous improvement with the ability to lead and/or direct LEAN Continuous Improvement activities.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field and a minimum of one year of experience; OR 5 (five) plus years of relevant experience which would provide the required knowledge and skills and allows successful performance of the job.
  • Working knowledge of LEAN concepts and production line design.
  • Understanding of Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Manufacturing Quality, Product Development.
  • Ability to present technical information.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • General knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word PowerPoint), DFMA, and ERP systems.
  • Experience in reading engineering drawings, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multitask and prioritize demands.
  • Self-starter, ability to resolve issues and research solutions.
  • Demonstrated organizational and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Experience with creating and writing workmanship instructions or standard operating procedures.
  • Experience with training operation’s teams on various technical concepts.
VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • LEAN Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
  • Project Management Certification or coursework.
  • Experience with automation machinery programming; specifically, fabrication equipment.
  • Experience with standard operating procedure program automation or a similar visual knowledge system (i.e. – Dozuki, Trainual, VKS, etc.)
  • Experience and knowledge with process design & risk analysis techniques.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use of eyes for close vision, use hands, fingers, grasp, handle, reach, listen, talk and may need to talk on the telephone while taking notes. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to 30 pounds or ask for assistance.

The noise levels in some manufacturing facilities frequently may exceed the normal dBA. Hearing protection required in some areas. The employee is required to wear eye and foot protection in the plant.

Normal working schedule: either Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm or Monday through Thursday, 6am to 4:30pm.
