Job Description


This position is responsible for implementing manufacturing process improvements and championing lean initiatives that increase efficiencies, reduce waste, and improve safety by utilizing proven knowledge of mechanical engineering, materials, tooling and production capabilities and quality control standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and implement process improvements that increase efficiencies, reduce waste, and improve safety by utilizing lean manufacturing principles such as 5S, Quick Changeover, Kaizen, and A3
  • Champion efforts to implement the use of Industry 4.0 technology tools including the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data Analytics, Defect Detection Visioning Systems and Augmented Reality.
  • Analyze process performance data and use production personnel input to drive process improvements
  • Work with maintenance and production supervision to design new and improve existing manufacturing process equipment, tools and fixtures
  • Utilizing 8D and A3 methodologies, perform root cause analysis to day-to-day issues associated with the manufacturing operation and in response to customer complaints and/or corrective action requests.
  • Evaluate current equipment and processes, recommend/specify new equipment/process proposals and conduct ROI calculations for new equipment recommendations to meet new/existing customer needs
  • Participate in new product APQP discussions to evaluate new products and determine if current processes are adequate to satisfy customer needs.
  • In conjunction with the Safety Manager, communicate regularly regarding safety hazards and issues, suggest and compose procedural changes and maintain a clean, safe work environment.


Qualifications


EXPERIENCE & EDUCATIONAL REQUIRMENTS/PREFERENCES:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a strong background in lean, 6-sigma, and other process and quality improvement methods, and a minimum of 5 years discrete manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in the use of the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data Analytics and other Industry 4.0 technologies is highly desired.
  • Must have experience working independently and in direct contact with shop floor personnel, suppliers and customers
  • Expertise improving the productivity and quality of operations, and project management in discrete manufacturing operations.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with process improvements and equipment design/ modifications.
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control, metals properties, processing methods, and industry standards.
  • PLC, robotics or automation experience is a plus
  • Must possess strong computer skills with working knowledge of AutoCad, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
