Position Purpose/Summary: The Manufacturing Process Supervisor is responsible for providing solutions to a wide range of mechanical and engineering situations, which requires use of in-depth knowledge of manufacturing machinery, operations, processes, and engineering principles. This role coordinates and supervises staff in the general maintenance department. Responsible for the overall maintenance of production equipment and providing overall process improvements.

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities (minimum)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Preferably in engineering, business, operations management or similar field.
  • Certifications in Continuous Improvement preferred.
  • Certifications in Lean or Six Sigma preferred.

Experience (years and topics):

  • Must have 5 - 7 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, Maintenance Mechanic and/or Maintenance Coordinator, or similar position.
  • Liquid blending and filling machine experience highly preferred.
  • Mechanical skills or basic knowledge of Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Pumps, Bearings, Chains and Belting, Conveying Systems, Valves and Mechanical Troubleshooting considered a plus.
  • Electrical skills or basic knowledge of: Basic Electricity, Volt Meter and Amp Probe, AC/DC Motors and Control Systems, Basic Schematic Reading, Basic PLC Knowledge and Electrical Troubleshooting are a plus.
  • Machine shop skills or basic knowledge of: Welding, Fabrication and standard maintenance tools and shop equipment considered a plus.
  • Machine Experience or basic knowledge including MRM/Elgin, Cozzoli, Pacific, Kapsall, Oden, and Kalish liquid fillers, Resina, and Kapsall automatic cappers considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated successful completion of a major improvement project.
  • Strong skills in project management.
  • Shown ability to excel in results-oriented, challenging environment.
  • Ability to lead a team-based approach to decision-making.
  • Effective mentoring, facilitation, presentation and team-building skills.

  • Must be able to stand / walk for an entire eight hour shift. Occasional bending, crouching, and crawling

Position Responsibilities-Tasks-Deliverables

All duties as assigned and the following specific activities.

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of Maintenance Mechanics in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment, and in fabricating metal parts and tools.
  • Coordinates activities of maintenance staff engaged in installation of machinery and equipment.
  • Directs maintenance staff in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • Assists maintenance staff in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment based on observation of machinery and applying knowledge from past experience.
  • Directs staff engaged in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.
  • Provide specific engineering details for the customer quote request process including: line layouts, Production speeds, crewing, bottlenecks, capital requirement, etc.
  • Evaluate new packaging and work with in-house and outside technical staff to determine exactly what is needed to run on existing equipment.
  • Provide engineering direction to design and create solutions to optimize and expand current capabilities.
  • Provide in-house consultation, support and direction to production and quality groups as it pertains to form-fit-function of new and existing packaging. Direct and supervise in-house technicians, contractors and production/facility mechanics during the installation of new equipment, lines, tanks, etc. to ensure a high standard of work is performed and that all safety, regulatory, quality and GMP’s are followed.
  • Develop the Lean transformation plan:
    • Objectives and targets setting
    • Resource selection and allocation
    • Transformation roadmap including planning, scheduling and sequencing
    • Communication to operational leaders
  • Lead the transformation of the site including:
    • Leading plant problem solving initiatives
    • Leading site implementations across Operations Systems (e.g. technical improvements), Management Infrastructure (e.g. key performance indicator development), and Mindsets, Behaviors, and Capabilities (e.g. culture change)
    • Ensuing sustainability and supporting continuous plant improvement
    • Develop, own and build the Lean capabilities of the staff
    • Developing and deploying a robust Lean training program

  • Continuously improves processes by enacting at least one efficiency improvement through labor/cost reduction and demonstrated ROI.
  • Maintain production line uptime of 75% or greater.
  • Execute and maintain 95% attainment to schedule.
  • Contribute to 95% or greater efficiency Routing vs. Actual (Pcs/Man Hour) through implementation of standard work and continuously improving manufacturing processes.
  • Meets service levels consistently; preferable to exceed expectations.
  • Communicates timely and to the appropriate personnel with regards to any information about meeting work assignments as directed or as inferred to be successful.
  • Uses materials, tools, and resources safely, appropriately and with value considerations, and conducts work activities in a safe manner with forethought to best actions rooted in safety for oneself and others.
