Summary:
Maintain food safety and safe quality food (SQF) programs in the plant. Perform all jobs safely, efficiently and accurately to maintain and improve the performance of the entire plant in the areas of Safety, Quality, Reliability (SQR).
- Well organized (able to maintain files electronically, plan audits, keep track of vendor progress on supplying documents, and follow-up on tasks to completion)
- Strong initiative, persistent, able to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail
- Excellent computer skills (minimally needs excellent desktop publishing skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with Acrobat PDF, Sharepoint, Access, or other software used to organize, store, and communicate information is helpful)
- Technical writing skills (able to understand complex processes and write them into simple instructions employees can follow)
- Excellent communication skills (able to communicate with vendors, auditors, and people at all levels of MDVA in person, by phone, or by email)
- Understanding of quality systems, food manufacturing, and the dairy industry are helpful
- Champion for continuous improvement
- Create and update SOPs, SSOPs, and recording forms for the plant
- Maintain and audit our document control system per SQF requirements
- Create and update product specifications for MDVA brand and private label products
- Assist with answering questions about products to our sales & marketing teams, as well, customers as needed
- Work with our vendors to maintain updated specifications and supplier quality documentation for all of our ingredients and packaging materials
- Assist with answering questions about our ingredients and packaging materials, to our sales, marketing, purchasing, and production teams
- Provide our quality documents to our customers, update customer portals, and fill out customer questionnaires as needed
- Assist with maintaining, updating, and improving our food safety and quality management system
- Assist with preparation and participate in regulatory, religious, and customer audits, as well, follow-up on corrective actions
- Assist with organizing and completing internal plant audits
- Review facility documentation to ensure compliance providing constructive feedback to MDVA cross-functional teams for corrective actions
- Assist with updating plant and customer KPIs
- Assist with other quality projects and initiatives as needed
- Bachelors degree in science, engineering, or technical writing preferred, but work experience can be substituted in place of education
- The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of work experience as an SQF practitioner, document control specialist, supplier quality specialist, customer quality specialist, or similar roles in quality systems OR 3-5 years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, laboratory, or food/pharmaceutical manufacturing at a supervisory or above level will also be considered
- Experience designing SOPs, SSOPs, and recording forms in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with communicating and problem solving in cross-functional teams and with customers
- Experience updating KPI’s and CAPA follow-up a plus
- Has a current SQF practitioner, HACCP, and/or PCQI certificate(s) or is willing to get these certifications within the first year of employment
- Experience with SAP, LIM systems, or creating systems for managing records a plus
- Experience with FDA, USDA, state Department of Agriculture, Organic, and Kosher a plus
