Mechanic Helper - $17.00-$21.00/HR

Mechanic Helper Responsibilities:

The Fleet Mechanic helper is responsible for helping in the mechanics shop, along with other mechanics, for the preventive maintenance and repair of a fleet of 130+ vehicles, bucket trucks, digger derricks, excavators, trailers, and other pieces of construction equipment.

Help evaluate, troubleshoot, and repair following systems on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks:

• Drivetrain (engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials)
• Brakes (including air, electric, and hydraulic)
• Suspension
• Hydraulics
• Diesel exhaust system
• Wheels (change, balance, replace bearings, wheel studs, etc.)
• Vehicle and trailer lights
• Vehicle electronics
• A/C
• Provide fleet maintenance
• Oil and fluid changes
• Filter Changes
• Replace bearings
• Changing batteries
• Lubricating equipment
• Cleaning equipment
• Help keep mechanic shop organized, clean, and safe.
• Welding and basic steel fabrication

Location: La Porte, TX

Schedule/Shift Details

5:30am to 2:00pm

Fleet Mechanic Helper Requirements:

• Must be able to work Monday-Friday (5:30AM - 2:00PM) with overtime as the workload requires.
• Must provide own hand tools.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years of field experience within the automobile maintenance and repair industry.
• Must have, or be willing to obtain, a Class A Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English (Spanish speaking abilities a definite plus).
• Must be "mechanically inclined" with the aptitude to help diagnose, service, and repair different systems of vehicles and construction equipment.

Certifications and Education

• A High School diploma or G.E.D. is required.
• An Associate’s, Bachelor’s degree (for any discipline), or a technical degree is desired but not required.
• Additionally, Continuing Education will always be a requirement and will be mutually determined and agreed upon.

Other duties include:

• Must be able to multi-task and continually prioritize tasks throughout the day.
• Must have adequate computer skills
• Must have excellent organization, communication, follow-through, and execution skills.
• Self-starter
• Must be self-disciplined, trustworthy, and able to work productively with minimal supervision and follow all Safety, Personal Protective and Equipment Policies.
• Must have a clean driving record and transportation to work.
• Must pass screenings
