Mechanics Apprentice/Assistant - Fort Myers, FL

Denali Water Solutions looking for an experienced mechanic assistant to service and repair our equipment on-site and in a shop environment. The selected candidate will be a jack of all trades. The candidate will operate heavy equipment, clean pads, help with mechanical issues both on heavy equipment and in the plant. Mechanics assistant Composting Facility:

Skills and knowledge:

  • Heavy equipment operation
  • Mechanical service and repair
  • Manual labor (kneel, bend lift, and work in difficult environmental conditions)
  • Capable of using hand/power tools.
  • Follow directions/team player.
  • Maintain logs on equipment service(s)
  • Equipment installation
  • Install maintain process instrumentation.
  • CDL License (optional)

Essential Functions:

  • Cleaning equipment in conjunction with operatorsLarge trommel screener drum, and belts

Compost turner drum and treads
Front end loaders all
Skid steer and associated attachments.

  • Greasing multiple types of fixed and mobile equipment
  • Daily monitoring blower pressure and pump flow
  • Taking daily temperatures with manual probe (as needed)
  • Clear and clean the pads & roadways around the facility using skid steer and walk behind blower.
  • Monitoring and hand picking (removal) large stumps/contaminants from incoming loads.
  • Running the onsite dump truck (no CDL)
  • Potentially operating loader when staffing requires (sick or vacation)
  • Cleaning fixed aeration system (inside the building) between batches (some hand work, majority with a skid loader sweeper attachment
  • Keeping drains cleared
  • Operating the pressure washing (building, equipment, pad, flushing drains)
  • Pre/Post operation activities. – fueling/DEF equipment (fixed and mobile equipment)
  • Mechanics assistant – generally assist the mechanic in facility wide projects.Monitor multiple facility systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical). Note and notify staff of anything not working properly.
  • General facility maintenance
  • Draining process water lines/managing process water tanks

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift and/or move, up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently required to walk, use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

Standard work week for full-time employees is five days. Schedules will vary, based on the company’s needs.

Required Education:

  • Must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D

Pay: Hourly, to be determined.
