Gilman Clinic is a specialty practice focused on treating patients with HIV, viral hepatitis and/or advanced liver disease. The medical assistant plays an important role in our multidisciplinary team with both direct and indirect patient care tasks. The Medical Assistant (MA) is assigned duties and responsibilities related to patient care in a team-based ambulatory practice environment. The MA functions under the license of the provider when performing clinical and other patient care tasks. The MA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care within their scope of practice and according to organizational policies, accrediting and licensing bodies.

• Position Summary
  • Responsible for performing a variety of duties in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental and organizational tasks.
• Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Education: Successful completion of a medical assistant program from an accredited vocational institution or community college.

  • License/Certifications: Current BLS required or must be obtained within 3 months from start of employment.

  • Experience: Minimum one year's experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.

  • Ability to excel in a team-based care environment.

  • Working knowledge of continuous process improvement.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office procedures.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff.

  • Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks and to have the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis.

  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image even under stressful situations

  • Analytical ability required to gather and interpret information necessary to resolve problems.

  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others

  • Proficient computer skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
