Knowledge & Abilities:
· Knowledgeable and familiar with medical terminology
· Previous experience conducting chart audits
· Strong attention to detail
· Strong written and oral communication skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft office product (i.e. Excel, Outlook, Word) along with the ability to learn other operating systems like Nextgen and Modernizing Medicine.
· Ability to communicate effectively with providers to clarify any documentation in the record that is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes
Responsibilities:
· Codes and audits (internal and/or external) medical records and related documentation for accuracy and compliance. Complete appropriate audits upon requests and within established timelines. Submits any staff/clinical concerns and issues related to chart review to management.
· Review medical record documentation in the electronic health record and/or on paper. Ensures all coded services meet appropriate Medicare, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) or payer-specific guidelines.
· Reviews claims for fraud, waste or abuse and notifies management of such findings.
· Communicates effectively with clinical staff to ensure consistency and accuracy. Obtains and maintains competency/certification in diagnosis coding prefer CPCD certification for Dermatology Specialty and/or CPC certification.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
