Job Title: Medical Family Therapist

General Description:

Provides therapeutic services to families, couples, groups, and individuals within Chickasaw Nation’s Department of Health clinics or the Chickasaw Children's Village to ensure access to quality integrated health services, promote quality healthcare, and to help improve the overall health of patients. Functions as an embedded or co-located integrated healthcare team member by working collaboratively with Department of Health providers to comprehensively care for individuals and families served. Assists in developing and implementing program design and methods to measure program effectiveness.

Supervision Received: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Senior Program Manager of Medical Family Therapy, or assigned program manager.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Supervision Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides therapy services to individuals served.
  • Provides evidence based family, couple, individual and group therapy.
  • Conducts evidence-based diagnostic screenings and assessments.
  • Aids in formulating and implementing assessment methods to measure program effectiveness.
  • Documents all services in the electronic health record to maintain records in accordance with standard elements needed for billing and ethical standards for practice.
  • Implements empirically validated measurements into therapeutic practice to assess for client progress in therapy and to measure overall therapeutic effectiveness with individuals served.
  • Assists leadership in developing referrals and streamlining program processes.
  • Collaborates with physicians and medical providers on behalf of patients served, and makes referrals as necessary.
  • Provides clinical mental health consultations and brief interventions for patients served at the request of physicians, medical providers, mental health clinicians and other service providers.
  • Maintains an active full time panel and caseload of billable services, engages in therapy-related activities and contributes to program development.
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed during regular work hours and for medical family therapists working at CNMC, crisis intervention services are provided by rotation after work hours with an expected 20-minute call back response time.
  • Completes timely email correspondence, monthly reports, and business related to medical family therapy services within CNDH and CNDFS, as appropriate.
  • Assists, if needed, in developing grant proposals and implementing grant-related services.
  • Participates or develops continuing education conferences and seminars to maintain therapy skills, stay up to date ethically and to increase knowledge of treatment provision.
  • Collaborates with CNDH, CNDFS and other non-tribal entities to deliver services effectively to individuals and families.
  • Particpates in community outreach and related events.
  • Maintain protocol as established by the Chickasaw Nation.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required - Must possess therapeutic skills and be comfortable in medical settings. Must possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in order to engage members of the medical community and other referral sources. Must possess interpersonal and communication skills to include being a team player, ability to communicate effectively with medical providers, be flexible in their work flow, and exhibit the high energy necessary to thrive in a fast pace medical environment. Be self-motivated, capable of exhibiting an adequate work ethic without close supervision, and have proficiency using Electronic Health Records for documenting and researching patient health. Be able to assist in the planning and preparation of grant proposals. Willing to work irregular hours and weekends as needed or required by job duties. Be willing to travel.

Education:

Masters Required - A doctoral or master’s degree in the mental health field.

Education Note:

Training And Experience:

Required Training (6 months - 3 years) - Experience working in a health setting. Preferred Training (6 months - 3 years) - Experience working with First American populations preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, Other:

Required - Must possess a current license without restrictions or be eligible for licensure from the State of Oklahoma Board of Behavioral Health Licensure as a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor with Mental Health Designation (LADC/MH), or the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). For license eligible, must be able to achieve licensure within two years of hire. Required - Must have a valid Oklahoma driver license and safe driving record.

Physical Requirements:

Required - Work in medical facilities may require considerable standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods. Must possess the ability to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment.

Work Environment:

Work is performed within CNDH or CNDFS, ambulatory care environment and community at large, where there is common exposure to contagious diseases. The work may also include a certain amount of exposure to challenging and emotionally distressed patients, family members, and visitors.
