  • Our Medical Physicist Therapy will be supporting patients at both Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC in Berlin, VT approximately 60% of the time) and University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC in Burlington, VT approximately 40%).
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Therapy Medical Physicist provides clinical medical physics support to the Radiation Oncology Division.
  • This support consists of providing technical expertise in the safe and efficacious use of radiation in the treatment of disease.
  • This includes consultation with Radiation Oncologists on patient setup, planning, and treatment, implementation of new treatment equipment and techniques, and assuring the accuracy of patient treatment planning and delivery.
  • The Therapy Physicist, along with the other members of the Medical Physics Division, assures that ionizing radiation is used in a safe manner throughout the hospital.
  • This position includes a split of time between UVMMC in Burlington (40%) and CVMC (60%) in Berlin, VT.
  • The successful candidate will join a team of 5 other therapy physicists, 1 diagnostic imaging physicist, and 1 MRI physicist at UVMMC. At the CVMC campus the candidate will serve as the primary physicist with assistance from the rest of the UVMMC team.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:
  • CVMC treats approximately 20 patients per day on a Varian accelerator equipped with OBI/CBCT and surface-guided imaging. Pinnacle is used for treatment planning and Aria is the R and V system. The CT simulator is a new (2021) Philips Big Bore with 4DCT and TumorLok.
  • UVMMC treats approximately 60 patients per day on 3 Elekta accelerators equipped with on-board kV/CBCT, surface guided imaging, robotic couch, and 3D ultrasound. There are active programs in SRS, SBRT, GYN HDR, prostate LDR, and Y90 microsphere. Pinnacle, iPlan, and BrachyVision are the treatment planning systems and Mosaiq is the R and V system.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
MS, DMP, or PhD in medical physics.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • At least three years of clinical medical physics experience and board certification by ABR, ABMP, or CCPM required.
  • Five years of experience preferred.

  • Relocation Assistance: Candidates joining us in a full-time position, from a distance that is greater than 50 miles from their previous role and home, are eligible for relocation assistance. Our Medical Physicists qualify for the relocation benefits through our partner UrbanBound up to $15,200.
  • Sign-on Bonus: Allied Health Professionals who accept an eligible position at the UVM Medical Center will be offered an Allied Health Bonus. Must be new to the UVM Health Network. Bonuses are paid out in 3 installments (after 90 days of service, 1 year of service, and 2 years of service). The amount of the bonus is based on the years of experience one brings to the role.
    • $3,000 bonus for Allied Health Professionals with less than three years of directly related experience.
    • $5000 bonus for Allied Health Professionals with three or more years of directly related experience.
