Job Summary:

The Mental Health Clinician (MHC) is responsible for providing and coordinating mental health services, and provides referrals to community resources as needed to foster youth in our STRTP. They are responsible for the overall coordination of mental health services, and work closely with the treatment team and other supports in the youth's life, such as family, CASA workers, CSWs, lawyers, and teachers. They provide direct mental health services including individual, group and family therapy in a residential setting. The Mental Health Clinician documents all services according to Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) and KYJO guidelines. This position requires on-call responsibility, a high degree of flexibility in responding to emergent needs of youth in crisis, and good organizational and documentation skills and ensure that all services are provided in accordance with the Keeping Youth Journeying Onwards mission statement, Value Statement, Code of Conduct and KYJO's Policies and Procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide time-limited individual, group, and family therapy to youth and their families.
  • Participate in the child and family team meetings, treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and IEP meetings when necessary.
  • Maintain case loads of up to 12 clients.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments, treatment plans, functional behavioral assessments, progress notes, monthly reports, discharge summaries and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Maintain client charts and records to utilization review standards.
  • Maintain close communication with all treatment team members.
  • Participate in weekly individual and/or group supervision as required.
  • Attend and participate in all training as assigned.
  • Maintain professional behavior at all times, appropriately representing the agency's mission and philosophy.
  • Responsible for treatment planning and coordination.
  • Provide comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, risk assessment, and clinical interventions.
  • Completes all documentation and reports in line with all applicable county, state, and agency guidelines.
  • Plan and facilitate groups for youth (Anger Management, CBT, etc.).
  • Ensure mental health treatment is in line with the youth's Needs and Services Plan, case plan, and transition plan.
  • Provide crisis intervention when needed.
  • Participate in the agency emergency intervention plan.
  • Provide on-call clinical support to STRTP staff as scheduled.
  • Participates in the Child and Family Team.
  • Ensure the creation, development, implementation and review of the clients' individualized mental health treatment plan.
  • Provide psychotherapy to clients using a variety of modalities including individual, group and family.
  • Identifies and ensures implementation of appropriate evidenced based practices and compliance with the KYJO manual.
  • Utilize Trauma Informed Care approach.
  • Promote the on-going participation of the client, family, placing agent, and other members of the Child and Family Team meeting, when applicable, in discussions of the client's mental health treatment and progress.
  • Identify and address gaps in mental health service provision.
  • Advocate for the client throughout all aspects of service provision.
  • Demonstrate awareness of, sensitivity to and competence in dealing with a culturally diverse population.
  • Communicate information regarding progress of the client to the appropriate individuals, including the treatment team and family as appropriate Participate in weekly case consultation.
  • Coordinate mental health services provided outside of the organization.
  • Perform after care services and after care service referrals.
  • Completes DBH paperwork and other required documentation within agency required timelines and standard.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree, PhD or PsyD from an accredited or state approved graduate school, as defined by the Department of Education, in social work, marriage, family and child counseling, counseling psychology and can include any of the following: Licensed or waivered Psychologist (PhD/PsyD); Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or registered Masters in Social Work (Associate Clinical Social Worker - ASW); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or registered Marriage and Family Therapist (Associate Marriage and Family Therapist); Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or registered Professional Clinical Counselor (PCC). Licenses and/or registrations must be current.
  • Minimum of three years of youth service experience; preferably with high risk children and adolescents.

Certificates Licenses Registrations:

Incumbents are required to meet standards set by the State of California Community Care Licensing: physical exam and health questionnaire; Tuberculosis screening clearance; Statement of Criminal Convictions; Child Abuse Index Check; and Department of Justice Fingerprint Clearance.

Required to possess and maintain a current and valid California driver's License, acceptable DMV record and maintain the California minimum vehicle comp and collision insurance.
