Join us to grow your career in behavioral healthcare, learn new skills, and make a positive impact for our clients every day. We are seeking talented and motivated Mental Health Tech Staff to join our new Youth Community Crisis Stabilization (YCCS) program.

YCCS offers an alternative to emergency room treatment and inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Rather, clients are served by our community-based program that provides medically necessary, less-restrictive, and voluntary models of care. The program offers two units: one for latency-age children, and another serving adolescents up to and including 18 years of age.

Opportunities are available for all shifts, and for Direct Care Staff levels I & II; competitive compensation to align with level of prior experience. Available shifts include: Evening, Awake Overnight. Robust training program, and ongoing professional development will be provided.

The Opportunity:

Mental Health Tech's are directly responsible for delivering the highest quality daily care and creating a safe environment for Italian Home for Children clients. The Mental Health Tech will support clients in reaching their full potential through providing positive and nurturing relationships and a stable, consistent, and structured living environment for the duration of their stay. Our approach to care offers clients the opportunity to learn new coping skills and to replace maladaptive behaviors with more appropriate strategies. Direct care staff also model empathy, kindness, and patience for the youth and families that we serve.


The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of duties and responsibilities, but additional responsibilities may be required. Employees are expected to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.


Essential Functions:


Programming:

  • Directly supervise and care for clients
  • Engage with and fully attend to children/youth, monitoring behavior and interactions closely
  • Provide a therapeutic milieu environment for clients, maintaining a safe and healthy environment; meet the physical and emotional needs of clients
  • Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of clients
  • Plan, implement, and participate in social and recreational activities for clients
  • Implement treatment protocol established in client’s treatment plans and individual behavior plans
  • Interactions with clients must demonstrate a therapeutic and caring purpose
  • Apply positive models of childcare & behavior support, including therapeutic crisis intervention methods, and physical restraint
  • Participate in planful and meaningful discharge process
  • Remain awake and alert for entirety of shift, including Awake Overnight Direct Care Staff positions

Administration:

  • Complete serious incident reports, restraint reports and all other required logs and documentation
  • Attend required meetings and complete assigned oral and written reports
  • Overnight: complete logs by checking each bedroom and all areas of the unit; ensure that children / youth are in their rooms and asleep
  • Actively participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Italian Home for Children
  • Report to work on time, accurately punch in / out for shifts, review timecard each pay period via the HR/payroll system
  • Follow all program policies and procedures

Teamwork & Communication:

  • Interact with coworkers in a professional and respectful manner
  • All interactions in the presence of clients must be appropriate, respectful and in line with all training principles
Essential Qualifications
  • Commitment to the highest quality of care for children, youth, and families
  • Strong commitment to supporting, nurturing, teaching, and empowering children / youth
  • Demonstration of compassionate, sensitive, and empathetic care for clients
  • Provide therapeutic physical restraints safely and by training standards
  • Ability to bend, reach, move and lift 75 pounds
  • Current *MAP (Medication Administration Program) certification (*or certification received within 6 months of starting position)
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Flexible and able to work collaboratively
  • Ability to respond to emergencies quickly and safely – demonstrates good judgement and acts responsibly, according to training & policy
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of principles taught in trainings and seminars to the milieu, including therapeutic crisis intervention skills
  • High performance in a stressful and fast-paced environment
  • Must be receptive and responsive to supervision, coaching / feedback and professional development
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and writing)
  • Extremely reliable: arrive for shifts on time, consistent attendance, abide by procedures for tardiness & absenteeism
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License preferred
