The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking skilled mechanical/thermal engineers for exciting relevant NASA and DOD small satellite projects and proposals for opportunities with missions in Low Earth Orbit to planetary small spacecraft. The mechanical/thermal engineers are responsible for thermal design, analysis, and testing of small satellites. They may act as the mechanical project leads for concept and requirements development, mechanical design, thermal analysis, thermal vacuum testing, as well as providing technical support to related proposal efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in mechanical engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in thermal engineering and analysis
  • Proficient in the use of Thermal Desktop and thermal analysis tools
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a US government security clearance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in mechanical engineering or related field
  • More than 10 years’ experience in thermal engineering and analysis
  • Spacecraft/payload thermal analysis experience
  • Understanding of space environment
  • Experience with thermal vacuum systems and cryogenics
