Under general supervision of a technologist(s) or other higher-level staff member, who are available to handle or advise on unusual situations,

performs laboratory procedures per established and approved protocols, which require the limited exercise of independent judgement and interpretation.

These tests are performed directly under the supervision of a technologist, senior technologist, technical specialist, laboratory supervisor or laboratory director.

Relevant activities include, but are not limited to the following:

Gains experience and develops working knowledge by performing routine procedures utilizing instrumentation and manual methods
Responsible for the accuracy, interpretation and reporting of results

.
Performs and keeps accurate records of equipment maintenance and quality control
Refers problems and unusual results to appropriate personnel
Performs clerical and support services as needed.

Participates in proficiency testing of unknowns and internal and external continuing education
Participates in continuing education programs related to laboratories
.
.

.
Associate's degree in Medical Technology or related science from an accredited school required

.
Certification-eligible MLT (ASCP or other national agency). Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) required

Perform basic laboratory procedures accurately, efficiently, and per approved procedures.

.
Perform and document quality control and corrective action on all procedures accurately and per approved procedure.
Document and enter test information accurately.

.
Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action per predetermined procedures.
Recognizes abnormal results and refers them to designated personnel.

.
Knowledgeable regarding standard laboratory math and calculations needed to complete various work assignments.
Communicate effectively with all laboratory and hospital staff.

.
Read, write, comprehend English sufficiently to communicate with laboratory or hospital staff and follow procedures.
Understands and practices standard safety and infection control procedures including standard precautions.

.
Capable of walking, standing, sitting, and bending or lifting to 20 pounds.
Able to complete initial and annual competencies successfully.

.
Basic computer skills including Word, Excel and LIS.
Ability to work in conjunction with other laboratory staff to gain skills and experience in a variety of duties

.
Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with individuals in the lab and hospital
Careful attention to detail and written procedures
Appropriate level of professionalism

.
May perform duties on evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
