FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Rate: $17.78-$20.67 per hour

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

CHASI’s Mobile Health Unit is essential for delivering services to the communities we serve in the communities they live in. The Mobile Health Unit (MHU) driver is responsible for getting the MHU to the scheduled location on time, setting up, and stabilizing the unit. The MHU driver is required to maintain the MHU in optimum operational condition at all times. The MHU driver is required to report any service or maintenance needs to the Facilities Manager. The MHU driver will drive the unit to and from all scheduled maintenance appointments.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide timely services as the Mobile Health Unit Driver to and from all scheduled activities, including some weekends.
  • Adhere to the protocol for acceptable divers as outlined in the agency driving policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the MHU is clean, all cabinets and doors are secured during and at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain clean diving record, CDL certification, annual commercial driver medical certification and be willing to carry commercial driver’s license during all work hours.
  • Assist staff stationed on MHU when needed.
  • Ability to drive Mobile Food Pantry Truck and facilitate distribution as needed during regular driver’s time off.
  • Maintain accurate written / electronic records of daily vehicle usage log and other required documents.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Perform all functions in alignment with CHASI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and at least 3 years of CDL driving experience required
  • Experience as a driver of oversized vehicles/buses
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operations for large diesel vehicles
  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs regularly
  • Customer service experience preferred; drive must be able to interact with diverse groups of colleagues and clients in a positive and cooperative manner at all times
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record (driver’s license background check required)
  • Must have flexible schedule and able to work weekends.
