POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position is responsible for performing active case management for the residential mortgage foreclosure cases pending in the Mortgage Foreclosure/Mechanics Lien Section, Chancery Division, Circuit Court of Cook County, in a high volume, fast-paced environment requiring communication with the Court, litigants, and service providers for the Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum education and/or experience: Undergraduate degree, but Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school is preferred. Preferred education and/or experience: Preference may be given to attorneys with 2 or more years of experience, or individuals with strong experience in real estate or mortgage foreclosures, and/or bilingual capability in Spanish or Polish, or other languages.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of methods of legal research and analysis of applicable laws; basic understanding of mortgages, foreclosure process, foreclosure law and loss mitigation. Strong attention to detail. Effective reality testing skills. Effective and demonstrated facilitation skills. Strong project management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced and high volume environment. Experience with computer applications for word processing, spreadsheet, database and legal research/writing. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational abilities. Ability to work well with others and integrate with legal and non-legal personnel.

Specialized training, certifications, or other special requirements: Must have a current Illinois State Bar license and number and be in good standing with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. The Circuit Court of Cook County requires a thorough background check of all successful candidates and is authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and prior to placement.

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
Move the document review and exchange from the mediation phase to the facilitator/case management phase so that only those cases that are appropriate for mediation are referred to mediation. Bridge the non-court and court world to ensure a fair process. As an officer of the court, act as a facilitator who will educate, instruct, and identify what needs to happen in a case and who is responsible. Also, this position will keep the parties focused on accountability, promises and timelines. Act as a source of information for litigants regarding resources available to address the litigants’ needs. Serve as a depository for all available information regarding the case and up-to-date information on case status. Administer and coordinate the progression of cases from opening to final disposition. Maintain case files, written orders; motion, trial call, pretrial and other documents used in the courtroom. Maintain document files and correspondence pertaining to cases. Assist judges in resolving matters before the court and in courtroom proceedings. Complete orders and necessary paperwork in court. Perform basic administrative tasks in connection with job duties and/or at discretion of the judge/supervisor. Communicate with attorneys and litigants regarding the court’s standing orders, motion call, motion dates, contested motions, pretrial, trial matters and scheduling all non-routine matters. Assist with other miscellaneous matters as required by the judge/supervisor. Maintain confidentiality while performing duties.

Must be able to use Zoom and its features.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen. Stand for approximately 2-4 hours per day. Strength to lift files weighing up to 20 pounds and transport the files to courtrooms. Use a telephone and computer keyboard on a daily basis.
