Pandora

Pandora, a subsidiary of SiriusXM, is the largest ad-supported audio entertainment streaming service in the U.S. Pandora provides consumers with a uniquely-personalized music and podcast listening experience with its proprietary Music Genome Project® and Podcast Genome Project® technology. Pandora is available through its mobile app, the web, and integrations with more than 2,000 connected products.

How you’ll make an impact:

The Music Analysis team at Pandora is a foundational element of the Music Genome Project®. In this role you’ll be on the front lines, analyzing everything from hot new releases to venerable long-tail content.

What you’ll do:

• Evaluate a large spectrum of detailed musical characteristics at the song level
• Succinctly express the most prominent aspects of an artist’s career and body of work
• Classify musical characteristics into taxonomies

What you’ll need:

• Be a musician and be able to demonstrate knowledge equivalent to a 4-year music degree, including the ability to identify time signatures, chord qualities, melodic intervals, formal structure, etc. by ear
• Have a broad knowledge of popular music, with an emphasis on hip hop and r&b music genres, both current and historical
• Be conversant in the musical and cultural elements of various hip hop music styles
• Music Theory proficiency equivalent to 4 semesters of study, including:
• Transcribe melodies & evaluate the harmonic structure of a song
• Determine instrumentation & timbres of a song
• Accurately characterize metric and formal structures
• Broad knowledge of hip hop, r&b, and related music genres with a deep understanding of both mainstream and underground music, from different eras
• Versatility to be able to objectively evaluate music outside your own taste
• Familiarity with latin, middle eastern, electronic, and/or current pop music is a plus
• Basic computer skills: Mac / PC
• Must have legal right to work in the U.S.

At SiriusXM, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your background and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. We expect the base salary for this position to be in the range of $50,000 to $60,000 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
