Natural Resources Management Crew - NR Specialist 1 Job at Cleveland Metroparks
The Natural Resources Specialist 1 (Seasonal) is an entry-level field worker that assists Natural Resources Division staff in day-to-day or project related natural resource management, i.e., maintenance and restoration, research and/or monitoring activities, in Cleveland Metroparks.
Cleveland Metroparks is seeking applicants to learn and assist with a variety of natural resources management projects. The position duration will range from 4 to 6 months (800-975 hours) depending on the successful applicant's availability. This position reports to West Creek Reservation (0.3 miles from an RTA bus stop on Routes 53-53A) and will work on projects throughout Cleveland Metroparks. Projects will include:
- invasive plant removal – manually, mechanically, chemically
- native tree and plant installation
- storm water project maintenance
- volunteer projects
- wildlife management
- Energy and enthusiasm for outdoors natural resources work
- Strong work ethic
- Positive disposition and ability to work well with a diverse team
- Willingness to work outdoors and tolerate the conditions typical of northeast Ohio's natural areas (heat, humidity, poison ivy, and biting/stinging insects)
- Willingness to walk up to 3 miles daily in terrain that includes thick vegetation, wetlands, and steep slopes
- Willingness to learn herbicide techniques for chemical control of invasive plants
- Willingness to lift and carry 30 pounds
- Willingness to learn a variety of land management techniques including how to operate the relevant tools and equipment
- Willingness to carry out responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner
- Drivers license not required
Work Schedule: Typically a Monday-Friday daytime schedule, with occasional evenings and weekends as agreed upon in advance. Work schedule is partially weather-dependent and will be 30-40 hours per week. Please submit a cover letter along with your resume.
