  • Park Attendant:
Responsibilities include alternating between Front Desk Attendant and Campground Attendant. While working as Front Desk, the primary responsibility is to be the initial contact person for park visitors and to provide a positive image of the park and the State Park System through actions and appearance. Campground Attendants' have the primary responsibility of assisting in the overall operation and maintenance of the campgrounds. Duties of both attendants include: collecting entrance license revenues and camping permit fees; registering campers; answering visitors questions; firewood sales; keeping of records on park attendance; custodial; and maintenance of park grounds, buildings, and facilities. There may also be office duties, such as answering the phone, assisting the secretary, etc., and other duties as assigned.

Requirements: Money handling and customer service experience is helpful. Ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions is necessary. Skills in carpentry, plumbing, and vehicle/equipment maintenance are helpful.

Schedule: Successful applicants will work 32-40 hours per week with varied shifts that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Duration is May through Labor Day, with weekends possible until October 30.

Minimum salary: $12.88 per hour

  • Maintenance/Custodial Worker:
The main objective of maintenance personnel is to maintain all park areas and facilities to management standards. This includes custodial and maintenance of park grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Grounds duties include mowing, trimming, pruning of trees, spraying weeds, and landscaping. Custodial duties include daily and weekly extensive cleaning (power washing) of comfort stations and outdoor toilets, emptying fire-rings, stocking cleaning supplies, garbage removal, etc. Building and facility maintenance including new construction, renovation, and routine repairs should be expected. There may be other duties as assigned.

Requirements: Skills in operating, maintaining, and repairing equipment such as mowers, grass trimmers, tractors, weed sprayers, and trucks. Skills in carpentry, plumbing, small engine repair, and vehicle and equipment maintenance are preferred. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions.

Schedule: Successful applicants will work 32-40 hours a week, mostly weekday hours; however, weekend/evening/holiday hours may be necessary.

Minimum salary: $12.88 per hour

  • Campground Supervisor:
Primary responsibilities include being a team lead of Gate Attendants and Park Maintenance workers in the Park Manager’s absence. Constant contact with the public will be maintained throughout the performance of duties. A team lead must maintain a professional image by actions and appearance. Other duties include supervision, training, and assistance to gate attendants and park workers, collection and recording of monies from self-sell license stations, and maintenance of grounds, buildings, and facilities. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: Supervisory experience is helpful. Ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions is necessary.

  • Naturalist/Program Coordinator:
Develops, promotes, and presents programs on natural and cultural resources and environmental education. Duties may include developing and presenting day and evening programs for children as well as adults (i.e. arts and crafts activities, movies at amphitheater, programs for scout groups, etc.) and coordinating special events. Along with those duties, this position will fill needed shifts in the office or campground and assist with various duties as needed during times of high use.

Requirements: Experience and interest in teaching, public speaking, and working with children and adults is desirable.

Schedule: Varied shifts that include days, nights, weekends, and holiday hours can be expected, as well as FestiFall weekend in October.

Minimum salary: $13.91 per hour

All seasonal employees report to work at Newton Hills. The Lake Alvin, Union Grove and Good Earth State Park shifts will have some time spent at Newton Hills before leaving and after returning.

Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code. Valid driver’s license required.
