ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Explains Basic concept of the WIC Program to WIC participants.

2. Determines eligibility with regards to medical/nutritional risk, performing anthropometric measurements, hematological testing, and food package tailoring in accordance with State Agency policy and procedures.

3. Reviews the food package and WIC food list with WIC participants and loads benefits onto the eWIC card.

4. Assures local agency compliance with requirements for documenting medical/nutritional risk status and all nutrition education services provided in participant files.

5. Provides nutrition education and prepares nutrition care plans under the direction of the Nutrition Education Coordinator for WIC participants, including high risk contacts.

6. Promotes and supports breastfeeding and its multiple benefits through meetings dealing with breastfeeding issues as well as through participant education, participant care plans and by maintaining follow up breastfeeding contacts.

7. Responsible for evaluating, educating, and distributing breast pumps to WIC participants in the absence of the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.

8. Refers participants to other health related and social service agencies.

9. Assists with implementation of Local Agency Nutrition Education, Breastfeeding and Outreach Plans.

10. Responsible for adhering to the blood borne pathogen compliance program in accordance with OSHA standards in regard to safe disposal of all used hemocue supplies at all WIC clinic sites.

11. Keeps current on health issues by researching and/or reviews current health/nutrition publications in areas related to the WIC Program.

12. Assists Outreach Coordinator with all outreach objectives. Provides public relations by representing CAPCC WIC Program to other health agencies, schools, physicians, offices, and social service organizations and the general public.

13. Responsible for administering and completing Client Access Tracking System (CATS) applications for WIC participants.

14. Assist WIC Office Manager with answering phones, filing, printing vouchers, scheduling appointments, preparing files for next day appointments and other office duties as needed to provide WIC services

15. Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Participate in meetings and continuing education programs as appropriate to assigned job duties.

2. Performs overnight travel as required.

3. Safely drives all WIC vehicles.

4. Responsible for safeguarding food vouchers, ID cards, and participant files at all times.

5. Required to work all WIC clinic sites.

6. Mandated child abuse/neglect reporter

7. Follows the program procedures relating to confidentiality.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of basic principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics, both normal and clinical.

2. Ability to present educational information through the use of a variety of methods such as written brochures, posters or food demonstrations, etc.

3. Ability to present ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing, using language appropriate to the intended audience.

4. Counseling skills.

5. Knowledge of anthropometric measurement and techniques and the use of interpretation of growth charts and gain in weight grids.

6. Knowledge of correct hematological testing procedures.

7. Knowledge of correct procedures for determining medical/nutritional risk and ability to analyze nutritional problems of individuals.

8. Utilize the PDOH PENN computer system for data input.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Be registered or eligible for registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; or have at least a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with emphasis on one of the following: food and nutrition, community nutrition, public health nutrition, nutrition education, human nutrition, nutrition science, or equivalent or Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. (Required).

2. Current PA Driver’s License and reliable transportation (Required).

3. Free of Child Abuse/Neglect history as verified by proper authorities. (Required)

4. Must obtain FBI Fingerprinting and PA State Police Background Check Clearances

prior to starting employment. (Required)

5. Minimum one year experience in client interview techniques (Preferred).
